Pavlik vs. Edouard on Pacquiao-Margarito undercard on 11/13?

Image: Pavlik vs. Edouard on Pacquiao-Margarito undercard on 11/13?By Chris Williams: In a nice little mismatch, former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (36-2, 32 KO’s) could be facing Daniel Edouard (23-3-2, 14 KO’s) on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito bout on November 13th at the Cowboys Stadium, in Arlington, Texas. If you were looking for a reason to shell out $55 to see the Pacquiao-Margarito fight, this probably isn’t a good reason to want to purchase the fight because a fight between Pavlik and Edouard is a big mismatch. Since this card is hugely expensive, they’d have to pay me to watch this fight because I’m not interested in watching two mismatches on the card.

I think Pavlik is a good fighter, but he’s not a champion and I find it strange that he would be the co-main event of the Pacquiao-Margarito fight given that Pavlik was dominated in a 12 round decision loss in his last fight to Sergio Martinez in April. I’d at least like to see a fighter that’s actually winning and looking good coming into a PPV card that costs as much as the Pacquiao vs. Margarito card.

I’m not really interested in watching Pavlik, a non champion, take on Edouard, who was beaten in his last fight against Alfonzo Mosquera. So basically the co main event would have two fighters coming off of losses in their last fights. That’s not appealing. I don’t mind seeing Pavlik, but I certainly don’t want to pay to see him fight after the way he dominated by Martinez last time out, and I especially don’t want to see Pavlik fight Edouard.

That guy lost his fight, and was stopped by Eromosele Albert in 2007 and then stopped again by Jermain Taylor in 2004. Pretty much all of Edouard’s wins on his resume have come against 2nd tier opposition. I can’t find any wins over fighters I consider to be a 1st tier fighter on his record. Because of that, I have no interest in paying to see Pavlik-Edouard. They’re going to have to do better than this to get me to buy this card.

The main event between Pacquiao and Margarito is already a huge mismatch with one guy, Pacquiao, who has never fought at junior middleweight, and another guy, Margarito, who has fought only once at that weight in the past six years. They’re fighting for the vacant WBC light middleweight title, by the way. And if the Pavlik-Edouard fight ends up as the co main event, then we have two mismatches on the card. I’m cool with watching mismatches when it’s on free television like ESPN, but I don’t want to pay to see Pavlik add a fluff win to his resume. Goodness knows, Pavlik’s resume already has a lot of fluff wins on it already.

Watching him get spanked by 43-year-old Bernard Hopkins and now Sergio Martinez has turned me off towards watching Pavlik. If he wants to get me interested in paying to see his fights, then I want to see Pavlik fight Dmitriy Pirog, Gennady Golovkin or Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam. Other than those guys, I have no interest in watching Pavlik beat up on yet another B level fighter. Why should I pay to see Pavlik fight a guy that’s coming off of a loss and who has no wins over top tier opposition?
