Maidana, if successful with his letter, will then be able to force Khan to fight him or else he’ll be stripped of his WBA title by the WBA.

In his letter to the WBA, Maidana, 27, pointed out his difficulties in trying to get Khan to fight him despite Maidana being the WBA interim champion for well over a year since beating Victor Ortiz by a 6th round TKO in June 2009. Khan, instead of taking on Maidana, has chosen to fight Dmitri Salita and Paulie Malignaggi.

Khan is now saying that he might choose to fight someone else besides Maidana, because the Argentinian isn’t his mandatory challenger. The WBA, if they rule in Maidana’s favor, will force Khan to make a big decision whether to fight Maidana or vacate the title.

Maidana said to the WBA that Khan and his trainer Freddie Roach have been making statements that aren’t true about their reasons for not fighting him.

Maidana says that he’s never been offered a fight by Knan, and says that one of the lies that has been said about him. Maidana wants the WBA to either make Khan fight him or else have Khan’s title taken from him and given to Maidana. It’s going to be interesting to see if the WBA will force Khan’s hand, because if they don’t, Khan may opt to fight someone else that is less dangerous and someone he can get a much bigger cut of the revenue against.
