Khan thinks he can end Mayweather’s unbeaten record – Does anyone believe him?

By William Mackay: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) wants to get a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his promoter Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions wants to see Khan face Mayweather as well. In an article at the Times, Khan says “I would love to fight Mayweather and I believe I can end his unbeaten record.” I wonder what gave Khan the impression that he has the ability to beat Mayweather?

Did beating Paulie Malignaggi, Dmitri Salita, an old Marco Antonio Barrera, Andriy Kotelnik and Osin Fagan give Khan that belief? How about his 1st round knockout loss to Breidis Prescott? I think Khan has about as much chance of beating Mayweather as he does Wladimir Klitschko.

Mayweather is in a different league with Khan, and it’s silly for Khan and his promoter Schaefer to be talking about Mayweather when Khan still has to fight and beat Marcos Maidana and the winner of the Timothy Bradley vs. Devon Alexander fight. If Khan wins those fights, he’ll get his fight with Mayweather next year, probably in September, if Schaefer gets his way.

Getting a fight with Mayweather and beating him is a whole different story. I think Khan would be humiliated by Maywether, even worse than he was in his loss to Prescott. Mayweather would drag out the beating that Khan would receive and make it last for as long as possible. I don’t even think Mayweather would try to knock Khan out, but I think he’d get stopped none the less just from Mayweather’s clean connects on his fragile chin.
