According to boxing news from Dan Rafael of ESPN, HBO is very interested in showing this fight because of the appealing brawling style of Matthysse and the exciting style of Judah. The bout take place at light welterweight. Matthysse is ranked #3 WBO, #8 IBF and #12 WBC, and Judah is ranked #6 by the IBF.

Matthysse, 27, has a fighting style very similar to fellow Argentinian and light welterweight Marcos Maidana. Indeed, it’s hard to tell them apart in terms of how they fight other than the fact that Matthysse is a lot more accurate with his shots compared to Maidana. A win for Judah in this fight would put him up there with the other top light welterweights Timothy Bradley, Maidana, Amir Khan, Victor Ortiz and Devon Alexander in HBO’s tournament-like light welterweight match-ups that they’ve been showing for the past year.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer says “HBO likes this match. So we are trying to work it out.” Judah, 32, is coming off an impressive 3rd round TKO win over Jose Armando Santa Cruz on July 16th. Judah is scheduled to fight Michael Clark in a 10 round bout on October 2nd, and provided that Judah wins that fight without taking too much punishment along the way, he should be in good shape for a fight against Matthysse on November 6th.

Matthysse has good power and a high pressure offense that makes him very dangerous hard to beat. However, like Maidana, his defense is nonexistent and he’s very easy to hit. In his toughest fight of his career against Vivian Harris in February 2010, Matthysse was getting hit an awful lot in the fight. Although he ended up stopping Harrison in the 4th round, the stoppage was controversial as the referee Gelasio Perez Huerta stepped in and stopped the bout prematurely with Harris seemingly not hurt and still fighting back.

What was worrisome for Matthysse was how easily he was getting hit. He had no defense and was getting tagged with a lot of flush shots, and at the same time, his punches didn’t seem to have as much power on them compared to Harris’. If Judah is allowed to tee off on Matthysse the way that Harris was doing in that fight, it’s doubtful that Matthysse will be able to make it more than four or five rounds. Matthysse is not Kostya Tszyu despite sporting an impressive unbeaten record with a lot of knockout wins.
