Is David Haye’s bad chin a myth?

By Aaron Scully: With WBA champion David Haye’s November 13th bout coming up against Audley Harrison (27-4, 20 KO’s) a lot of questions will be answered about Haye’s suspect chin.

As we all know, Harrison as proved to have a big left hook, with 20 out of his 27 wins coming by knockout. But does he really have enough power to be able to knock Haye out, when none of the 25 previous opponents Haye has fought have been able to do?

Although Haye was previously beaten by stoppage by 40-year-old Carl Thompson in 2004, it was a questionable decision by the referee. Also, only 4 times has Haye been down in his boxing career, and that’s quite impressive. I think it’s more so impressive in the cruiserweight division, as they tend to throw more big pounding shots that do land often, whereas heavyweights seem to throw half the amount of shots and they are often very sloppy tired looking punches.

Haye was knocked down by Monte Barrett in his first real heavyweight fight in 2008, which got ruled a slip. But this really impressed me because while Haye was down, Barrett threw a left hook to the head, which you would of thought would of knocked a lot of fighters out. For example, if you look at the Super Six tournament fight between Andre Dirrell vs. Arthur Abraham, there is a good example of this. However, this took place at super middleweight. People argue that Barrett isn’t a big puncher, yet he was the first person to knock David Tua down in a fight. You have to wonder whether the real argument is about how much people dislike David Haye
