Image: Chisora v Klitschko: Chisora should avoid this fight for nowBy Tom Graves: It has been reported that 26 year old London Heavyweight Derek ‘Del Boy’ Chisora has been named in plans for Wladimir Klitschko’s next bout as a possible opponent. Around a fortnight ago Klitschko beat Samuel Peter by TKO in round 10 to retain the IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles and is now looking for a next opponent for the date of December the 11th. Chisora’s name has been brought up due to his recent win over Sam Sexton, which earned him the Commonwealth title. Chisora also owns the British title and is a huge young star within British boxing.

There is no doubt he is talented but with only 14 fights under his belt against nearly all domestic opponents it seems like common sense to avoid a fight with anyone with the level of experience and boxing skills Wladimir Klitschko possesses at this point in Chisora’s career.

I am taking nothing away from Chisora but I see a more sensible route as fighting a few world class fighters lower down the rankings such as Kevin Johnson or Monte Barret then organising a fight against a top contender in the division such as Ruslan Chagaev, Tony Thompson or Alexander Povetkin.

It could also be a good idea to fight a big name ex champion veteran who is still fairly active such as Evander Holyfield or Hasim Rahman in order to get Chisora’s name popular and out there in the world boxing scene and to have people talking about him.

It is obvious both Klitschko Brothers are trying to fit as many wins on their professional records as possible before retiring or becoming too old and beating young up and coming fighters of Chisora’s pedigree would pad out their record and add diversity of the opponents in which the two were victorious over when they decide to call it a day .

The Ukrainians are extremely talented fighters but have often have the reputation as boring, it is sad to say but both Wladimir and Vitalli are the best heavyweights at the moment and have been reigning as that successfully for years.

Avoiding a fight of this level wouldn’t mean Chisora is a coward, it is just common sense, I see Chisora as perfect material for a fight against either Klitschko in the future but for now it should be avoided.
A boxer’s career is much like one of the sweet science‘s main rules. Timing is everything.
