Image: Amir Khan: Putting it all on the line against Maidanaby Arfan Ali: Amir Khan’s career seemed to be in ruins two years ago after the brutal knockout he received by the powerful hard hitting Breidis Prescott. Two years from then, and two careers with contrasting fortunes, Amir Khan is talking about unifying the light-weight division were as Breidis Prescott is trying to reignite his career from two loses. The loss, in essence, for Khan was a boot up the rear end, a message that if Khan wanted to be a great fighter he would have to dedicate himself to boxing. A new trainer, gym, relocation and a promotion company have helped Khan the way back up the ladder, back to stardom.

Khan’s new trainer, Freddie Roach and they don’t come any finer; having won the trainer of the year award on many occasions has helped Khan on his defensive skills and improved his boxing brain to make him a mature fighter. Khan having made all these adjustments and a move up in weight which has made him stronger evident from his TKO win over Paul Malignaggi seems to be revitalised fighter

The challenge of Maidana is the one everyone has been waiting for. The tale of a power hitter versus a speedy boxer is always one to be watched one the edge of your seat because anything could happen. Though I don’t except the fight to be an exciting one due to there is just too much on the line for Khan to trade or get close to Maidana and flashbacks of his last fight with a power hitter will remind him and make the canvas look a cactus plated bed. With his speed the script for Khan will be just to box from the outside. Nevertheless a true champion is he who can overcome his weakness and still win on the night. This fight for khan is redemption and proving he can beat a hard hitting fighter and his previous loss to a hard hitting fighter was luck.

De ja vu, the real test for Khan is Maidana. If he loses via brutal KO he should be recognised as a B class fighter his claim of being a champion would be void. A loss via UD then he has to be congratulated for staying in there with a hard hitter. If victorious the lips of every critic should be shut.
