Froch talks Abraham and Sauerland

By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) in a column at Thisisnnottingham.co.uk, spoke about his upcoming fight against former middleweight champion Arthur Abraham, saying “I like Arthur, having shared his company a few times, but this is business and King Arthur may fall on his sword if he is relying on that means of victory.” In other words, if Abraham comes out looking for a knockout win over Froch, it may be Abraham that ends up getting knocked out instead.

I think Froch is really deceiving himself if he believes that nonsense. It sounds like Froch is speaking more to try and convince himself than other people, because Froch hasn’t seemed as confident and cocky as he used to be since being beaten by Mikkel Kessler in his stage 2 Super Six bout on April 24th. That loss really took the wind out of Froch’s sails and he’s been stressing ever since then, worrying about the venue for the Abraham fight for fear that he might lose another fight in the Super Six tourney and end up getting eliminated.

I think Froch needs to sit back and watch his fight with Kessler one more time and face reality – he lost the fight. He didn’t get ripped off like he thinks he did. He fought the best he could and it just wasn’t good enough unfortunately. I suspect the same thing will happen when he steps in the ring against Abraham on October 2nd. Froch will probably get beat and then start with the bellyaching afterwards about this thing or that. I really hope Froch doesn’t come with the excuses but I think he will.

Froch had this to say about Abraham’s promoter Kalle Sauerland: “speaking of little fellas, I hear that Arthur Abraham’s promoter Kalle Sauerland has been stating that he thinks the judges won’t be needed in my fight against King Arthur in Monaco on October 2nd, as he will knock me out. I hope he sought permission from daddy to talk boxing. He should leave the fighting talk to fighters as his words carry weight.”

Can you blame Kalle for doing the talking for Abraham? Heck, Abraham is just too damn nice all the time. You can’t get him to say anything negative about his opponents. He’s nice until he gets in the ring and then it’s a whole different story. Kalle obviously realizes that and is doing the heavy lifting for Abraham by doing a little trash talking to hype the fight.

Froch should be happy Kalle is doing this. You probably won’t get two words out of Abraham going into their October 2nd fighter other than him saying a lot of niceties about Froch and putting fans to sleep.

As for the rest of Froch’s column, it was mostly boring stuff about some of the British fighters that fought recently and other such blather, nothing really interesting at all. I like it better when Froch is talking about decapitating his opponents and giving graphic details how he’s going to knock someone out. That’s much more entertaining than his recent dull column. I hope the loss to Kessler didn’t knock the bravado out of Froch.
