Image: Cotto dominates Yuri before and after he injures legBy Eric Torres: I am going to start out my article by saying to all those Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) doubters, I told you so. I called an eight round stoppage and missed it by one. I was one of the very few Miguel Cotto believers and writers going into this fight, therefore I am entitled to say Cotto is back! Going into this fight Cotto was ridiculed for his only two professional losses in his career. One loss that is entirely called into question and the other to arguably one of the greatest boxers ever to lace up a pare of boxing gloves.

My oh my, how we forget and abandon ship when the chips are down. I knew going into this fight that Yuri foreman (28-1, 8 KO’s) was not in the same league as Cotto. I admit Yuri showed tremendous heart in this fight, but prior to his injury Cotto was out-boxing Yuri without much of a problem. Cotto’s jab, accuracy and power was the difference in this fight. Everything Emanuel Steward stressed Cotto needed to do to be successful before the fight came to light. Cotto’s balance, speed and accuracy were the difference tonight.

No one can say that Cotto was not out-boxing Yuri in this fight, no one! If they do they lose all credibility. The proof is there. I hope that all the Cotto doubters out there can finally feel good in knowing that Cotto looked disciplined and methodical tonight, these were attributes that he had lost along the way which made him successful. People questioned how much of an improvement Steward would be in the corner and it was obvious tonight.

I truly hope that Cotto can receive the respect that he has always deserved now that he has captured his 4th title and his 3rd in another weight class. This fight showed the actual heart of a two champions. One with Yuri showing the heart of a champion and the other with Cotto winning his title despite all the adversity he has endured since the Pacquiao(father passing).

Tonight, Cotto followed the path of many other true champions who have lost in there career and he did it in convincing fashion. I know that I may not be able to make the doubters believe in Cotto, but I hope I can help in making people appreciate & respect Cotto’s career and the legacy he will undoubtedly leave behind.
