Image: Prediction: The Haye-Klitschko fight will never be madeBy William Mackay: Many people in the boxing world are excited about the prospect of a heavyweight clash between WBA heavyweight champion David Haye and IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko. As of now, the two fighter’s management will meet on Thursday to try and arrange a fight for later on this year. However, don’t bet on the fight taking place now or ever.

Haye’s manager Adam Booth already said that Haye should get nothing less than a 50-50 deal, which is pretty nervy because Haye is a new champion and won the belt against and old Nikolay Valuev last year. Even if you want to paint Haye’s accomplishments in the cruiserweight division as admirable, which do not agree with, I still don’t see Haye’s prior opponents comparing to the opposition that Wladimir has faced at heavyweight. Haye was briefly considered the best cruiserweight in the division.

He immediately moved up in weight after getting his best win of his career with a 2nd round TKO victory over Enzo Maccarinelli in 2008. I don’t care if Haye was once considered to be the best fighter in the cruiserweight. He only was the best for a second before moving up in weight. Wladimir has been the best at heavyweight for the past five years. Haye has fought four times against opponents that a lot of the top contenders in the division would also easily beat.

Haye hasn’t taken on any dangerous opponents like Samuel Peter, Odlanier Solis, Alexander Povetkin and Denis Boytsov. Haye and his manager Booth might think that Haye should get a 50-50 deal, but I don’t believe that’s going to go over well with Wladimir. Actually, I see him getting upset and telling Haye to forget it. And that will essentially be it for the fight.

Haye and his manager probably won’t give in because Haye seems to be on top of the world now that he’s beaten 36-year-old Valuev, who many people felt that 46-year-old Evander Holyfield beat in 2008, and Ruiz, who came into the Haye fight having lost three out of his last six fight with his only three wins coming against B level opponents. Haye feels that he’s worth getting a 50-50 deal or better, but that just doesn’t seem to make any sense at all.

It will come down to whether Haye and Booth will give in and accept a lower cut more fitting of Haye’s accomplishments. I don’t think he will. And I know Wladimir won’t be willing to give Haye a minimum of 50-50 deal. There’s no way that he’ll do that. That would be crazy if he did. I could see it if Haye had fought and beat some quality fighters like Peter, Povetkin, Boytsov and Solis. However, he’d have to beat them all to prove to me that he’s worth getting a 50-50 deal, but I don’t see Haye beating any of them. He already got stopped by Solis once. In the end, Haye will probably stubbornly stick to his request of a 50-50 deal, and Wladimir will walk away in disgust.
