By Jim Dower: International Boxing Organization cruiserweight champion Danny Green (29-3, 26 KO’s) destroyed his badly over-matched opponent Manny Siaca (22-7, 19 KO’s) in the 3rd round on Wednesday night at the Challenge Stadium, in Perth, Australia. Green, 37, knocked Siaca down once in the 2nd round and a final time in the 3rd. After the knockdown in the 3rd round, referee Jack Reiss stopped the bout at 1:55.

The fight likely should have been allowed to continue, as Green, who had Siaca trapped in the corner, landed a flurry of punches, including two right hands that seemed to land to the back of Siaca’s head causing him to go down. While Siaca was down, Green landed a right hand to the head. It wasn’t blatant or anything, but it was clear that Siaca had gone down.

Green was standing over him at the time that he landed the final punch. However, if the fight had been allowed to continue, Siaca probably would have been finished off anyway because he was totally overmatched and just taking one-way punishment from Green at the time of the stoppage.

Moments before Siaca was taken out, he had clashed heads with Green and had suffered a cut on the top of his head. After that clash of heads, Siaca looked like he wasn’t very eager to continue fighting. Before the referee allowed the fight to Siaca seemed upset about the head clash and concerned about it. Immediately after the action resumed, Green drove Siaca to the corner and landed a series of hard combinations that put Siaca down for the final time.

Green tore into Siaca in the 1st round, getting in close and landing powerful combinations. Siaca made the mistake of twice hooking Green’s left arm to prevent him from punching. It didn’t work, however, as Green hammered Siaca over and over again with his free right hand. Siaca should have learned not to do that the first time, but later on in the round, he hooked Green’s left arm again and took five hard right hands from Green for his troubles.

There really wasn’t anything coming back from the 34-year-old Siaca. He was just getting smothered and hammered by the stronger Green in the round. Green looked really powerful and you could tell even then that Siaca wasn’t going to last long taking the kind of shots he was getting hit with.

In the 2nd round, Green continued his complete domination of Siaca, blasting away at him with hard power shots and basically mugging him up against the ropes. Near the end of the round, Green caught Siaca up against the ropes and hit him with a hard jab followed by a right hand that put Siaca down. He got back up and took punishment until the round ended.

Green trapped Siaca against the ropes in the 3rd round and really worked him over with big shots to the head and body. Siaca was mainly just covering up the same way that Roy Jones Jr. did in his 1st round knockout loss to Green last December. Siaca was basically just getting massacred by Green. Finally, the end came when Green threw a flurry of punches and succeeded in dropping Siaca with two hard right hands to the head.

Overall, it wasn’t a bad fight for Green. He showed good power and excellent finishing skills. He looked a little sloppy at times the way that he was fighting on the inside, but you can’t argue with success. However, he really needs to step up the level of his opposition and face better fighters. Ideally, Green needs to go after one of the major titles and try his hand at beating cruiserweight champions Marco Huck or Guillermo Jones. There’s also two vacant cruiserweight titles – IBF & WBC – that Green could and should go after. He’d probably have to beat someone like Steve Cunningham or Kzysztof Wlodarczyk to get the titles.

Other action on the card:
