A spokesperson for Calzaghe informed the Mirror that Calzaghe has no intentions of ever fighting again. It was recently reported by several boxing sites that Calzaghe was planning on making a comeback in late 2010 and that his agent was looking around for potential opponents.

Calzaghe was being linked for a fight with Robin Reid, but that no seems to be a bogus rumor that has been circulating around the net. Calzaghe, who is a wealthy man, doesn’t need the money and has no intention on coming back. Calzaghe last fought in November 2008, beating boxing great Roy Jones Jr. by a lopsided 12 round decision. Before that, Calzaghe beat Bernard Hopkins by a 12 round split decision in April 2008.

At the time that Calzaghe retired, he had pretty much exhausted all the potential big money opponents out there for him. Boxing fans wanted to see Calzaghe fight guys like Chad Dawson and Kelly Pavlik, but those fights wouldn’t have given Calzaghe the big payday that he needed for him to show interest in fighting them. The Super Six tournament hadn’t started at the time that Calzaghe retired, and fighters like Andre Ward, Andre Dirrell, and Arthur Abraham weren’t well known fighters to casual boxing fans. Those fighters will all be popular by the time the Super Six tournament is over, but unfortunately their popularity has come too late.
