Fonseca stops Seeger in 9 – Boxing Results

fonseca4Photo: Tom Casino/SHOWTIME – By Sam Gregory: In the co-main event tonight/Friday, October 23rd, on ShoBox: The New Generation on Showtime Al “The Quite Storm” Seeger 28-4 with 22 KO’s returns to the ring for the first time since last April 30th when his fight with Benjamin Flores ended in tragedy after Flores died from injuries sustained in his fight with Seeger. Tonight Seeger takes on undefeated Victor Fonseca 16-0 with 8 KO’s in a 10 round bout in the super bantamweight division.

Vacant NABF and NABO titles are on the line

Round 1 both men came out cautiously throwing their jab to test their opponent. Seeker landed a solid right hand to the body; Fonseca clinched, they were separated by the ref; Seeker appeared to land the cleaner punches in this round.

Round 2 Seeker came out aggressively early in the round; Fonseca missed with a combination than landed a shot to the body. Fonseca had Seeker against the ropes and landed a couple solid shots to the head. Both men clinched, Fonseca continued to punch on the break; Fonseca landed a solid left uppercut and won the round.

Round 3 Fonseca landed a good left hand early in the round, they clinched and separated by the ref; Fonseca continued to land his lead right at will, Seeker stood in front of his opponent and ate a couple hard jabs; both men came very close to clashing heads; the round was very even.

Round 4 Seeker came out early as the aggressor throwing his jab; Fonseca landed his lead right with excellent timing. Seeker pushed forward and continued to be caught with the lead right hand, Fonseca clinched and punched out. Fonseca had better timing and landed more punches using his lead right hand.

Round 5 Fonseca threw combinations and landed with accuracy, Seeker had his hands held low and got caught with Fonseca’s lead right hand. Seeker pushed forward but walked into Fonseca’s jab that landed more shots in this round.

Round 6 Seeker came out throwing with less accuracy; Fonseca clearly controlled the offensive flow of the fight. Seeker’s punches were wide and he over-reached walking into Fonseca’s lead right hand. In the last 30 seconds of the round Seeker landed with his combinations and might have stole the round.

Round 7 with the start of this round Seeker seemed to be back in the fight throwing and landing his jab with more accuracy. Seeker was walking in more and not getting caught landing his right jab with better success; Seeker landed his right than a solid left more effectively and has done much better in these last 2 rounds.

Round 8 Seeker came out for the start of this round with confidence throwing his straight right hand to the body. Fonseca threw single jabs but stayed more on the defense as Seeker landed a good solid right hand to the body followed with a solid combination. This round was stopped 2 times for Seeker’s corner to fix the tape on his gloves. Fonseca was warned at the bell for throwing punches while holding.

Round 9 Fonseca got off with some punches early in this round landing solid shots to Seeker’s head; Fonseca was the aggressor pushing Seeker around the ring; Fonseca landed a straight left hand to Seeker’s head; Seeker’s hands were down and he was stopped at 1:31 of the 9th round. Seeker was winning on the judge’s scorecards at the time of the stoppage.

Victor Fonseca improved his unbeaten record to 17-0 with 9 KO’s. Al Seeker fell to 28-5, 4 of his 5 loses came by way of KO.
