Dirrell: “I will do anything for the world title”

dirrell4527By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten super middleweight Andre Dirrell (18-0, 13 KO’s) appears more than ready to take out WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (25-0, 20 KO’s) as the Super Six tournament gets underway in a little over two weeks from now in Nottingham, England. Dirrell had this to say to the Las Vegas Sun:

“I will do anything for the world title. I’ll go wherever I have to go and fight whoever I have to fight. My mental game is sick right now and I’m just ready to do anything for that title. If that means I have to go to Nottingham to pick it up, then that’s where I’m going.”

Judging by the comments that Dirrell made, it looks as if the 32-year-old Froch is going to have his hands full when he meets up with Dirrell on October 17th, and he might get much more than he bargained for when he signed up for the Super Six tournament. Froch is saying that some bookies have installed him as the favorite to win the Super Six tournament.

Frankly, that’s some shocking news to me because I see Froch as being one of the fighters that might just come in dead last in the tourney, without winning one fight. If I was to pick a champion right now, it would come down to either Dirrell or Andre Ward. This has nothing to do with them being Americans or any of that garbage.

They just appear to be the best fighters. I think Mikkel Kessler is a capable fighter, although I wasn’t at all impressed with his last fight. He looked rusty and kind of old. He may be ripe to be picked off by two or three fights in the tournament. Heck, even Froch might beat Kessler the way he looked. I’m joking, of course. Kessler will destroy Froch, but it’ll be interesting while it lasts. The top three fighters in the Super Six tournament will be Ward, Dirrell and Kessler. Jermain Taylor could pull off some upsets if he’s at the top of his game.

Dirrell, though, looks like he’ll be ready to come into Nottingham and take Froch’s title and leave some unhappy fans wondering what happened. Froch has a chance in the fight, a small one, if he bum rush Dirrell and pin him to the ropes. If Froch hold him Dirrell down with his left hand and bludgeon him with his right, I think Froch has a chance of winning the fight.

Of course, that’s illegal but that’s probably the only thing that Froch can do to win this fight because Dirrell will be moving constantly and will be much too fast for the slow-footed Froch to land his shots. Froch needs to time Dirrell because his punches will be way too slow to land unless he can figure where Dirrell will be and then throw. Froch might as well close his eyes and swing, because that’s about how much of a chance he’ll have to land his shots in this fight. Froch doesn’t have the boxing skills to win this one and it will come down to just dumb luck for him.
