The four next possible opponents for Ricky Hatton

Many expected Hatton to agree a deal with Khan after he beat Kotelnik but that never happened. I seem to have a slight notion as to what Hatton is waiting for. He does not want Khan. Khan is a novice, beating him would prove nothing. I think he is waiting for the two mega fights happening very soon.

I am sure Hatton is looking to face either Miguel Cotto, Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather or Juan Manuel Marquez next. He might go after the loser of either of these fights, but I believe that is what he will do. In the past Hatton has stated he wants to fight Miguel Cotto, and what a clash of styles it would be. This would be a war. The same goes for Juan Manuel Marquez.

You might be asking yourself, why would Hatton fight Pacquiao or Mayweather when they have both beaten him. That’s a good point. But if either of them two boxers lose, they will be in a completely different position. Fighting Pacquiao again would give Hatton the chance to go into the fight again in the right state of mind, in the peak of his condition and show what he has. Yes, Pacquiao was exceptional that night, but Hatton was in no state to be fighting. In all fairness, he should have called the fight off.

Looking at these two highly anticipated bouts coming up, I would pick Mayweather and Cotto to win. That leaves Marquez and Pacquiao as the pair that are likely to be chased by Hatton as the two winner’s will, hopefully, fight each other. Am I being crazy asking for a Hatton/Pacquiao thriller number two. It would make sense financially to both fighter’s.

I can see why Hatton does not seem too interested in fighting Amir Khan. What would it prove? Maybe Khan should think about beating Briedis Prescott, the man that knocked him out in 54 seconds, before calling out a legend such as Hatton. As Hatton has said, the only title for him left is the pound for pound title and that is the one he shall chase.

The other light welterweights are very talented yet do not have the fan base and following of the likes of these four. Fighter’s such as Tim Bradley, Lamont Peterson and Nate Campbell are exceptionally talented and would provide a great test for Hatton, but the payday would not be as great, and lets remember, boxing is a business.
