Cotto vs. Pacquiao: How Can Anyone Be Picking Manny to Win?

pac435346By Manuel Perez: When I see all the boxing writers and fans that are picking Manny Pacquiao to beat Miguel Cotto on November 14th, I think these people have lost their minds entirely. Didn’t any of them go through the fight history of Pacquiao, and see whom he’s fought, and saw how vulnerable he was on defense and how sloppy he was on offense?

It’s as if they’re thinking upside down and they see things backwards instead of the right way like me.

I think Cotto is a superior fighter in every way compared to Pacquiao. Manny has only one thing going for him – hand speed. But that’s not enough to beat quality fighter. Sure, it’s good enough to beat someone like Hatton, who insanely bum rushed Pacquiao in the opening round and paid for his mindless attack by getting dropped by Pacquiao.

It would have happened against anyone with any talent on that night. Hatton got caught up in the moment and let his thinking process become disengaged. By the time he stared thinking clearly, it was too late, he had already been knocked down twice and was not going to be able to survive for long.

Anyone who picks Pacquiao I think is going to be sorry afterwards and crying about it. They’ll only have themselves to blame for not listening to me. Get this, Cotto is the bigger fighter, has the better chin and is used to fighting much bigger opponents than Pacquiao.

This, for Cotto, is going to be the equivalent of swatting an annoying fly. Pacquiao will be buzzing around on the outside, occasionally landing a pesky shot or two, but it’s not going to have any effect on Cotto. Why? Because Pacquiao doesn’t hit all that hard in my view.

He knocked out Hatton, who never saw the punch coming and was already hurt because of his stupid fighting strategy. De La Hoya already pointed out that Pacquiao can’t punch. I don’t know why no ones listening to De La Hoya, because he knows it himself that Pacquiao is being rated way too high on his power.

Okay, so Pacquiao’s power will probably not have any effect on Cotto on November 14th, because I see Pacquiao as too little and I think he doesn’t have the bone structure to punch like a normal welterweight. This leaves Pacquiao having to match Cotto punch for punch.

With Cotto not going anywhere like De La Hoya and Hatton, Pacquiao will find himself getting hit a lot. And if Cotto hits Pacquiao as much as Juan Manuel Marquez did, and believe me, he will, then I highly doubt that Pacquiao will be able to hold up under that kind of punishment.

Marquez had Pacquiao’s cut up in their fight last year in March, and he landed a lot of punches. Marquez isn’t a huge puncher by any stretch of the imagination. So with Cotto tagging Pacquiao as often as Marquez did, the natural outcome of this will be that the smaller fighter, Pacquiao, wills start breaking down physically and will end up getting knocked out before long. And I’ll be here gloating about it and saying “I told you so.”
