By Sam Gregory: In the co-main event Marvin Quintero 15-1 with 12 KO’s of Tijuana, Mexico 15-1 with 8 KO’s takes on Wes Ferguson 20-3-1 with 6 KO’s in a scheduled eight round lightweight bout. In the first round southpaw Quintero starts by shoting his jab trying to find his range and digging to the body. Ferguson is backed up as Quintero walks him down and lands his jab to possibly pull out the first round.
Round 2 Quintero is the aggressor pushing his opponent around the ring. Ferguson lands a nice jab; Quintero throws a lead right to the stomach. Ferguson comes on big and lands a good combination to finish big and win the round.
Round 3 Quintero lands a big left hook; Ferguson is backed in the corner. Quintero has a big comeback round landing a big left hook; Ferguson counters. Both men land big punches as the round goes back and forth. Ferguson finishes big.
Round 4 Quintero starts strong pushing his man; Ferguson gets warned for holding. Ferguson doubles up on his jab. Quintero lands big right hook. Quintero is the aggressor and pushes Ferguson against the ropes. With 10 seconds left both men in the center of the ring, Ferguson grabs and holds. Quintero appears to win the round.
Round 5 Quintero lunges forward with his jab; Ferguson holds his ground. Quintero goes to the body; Ferguson blocks most of the shots and counters. Both men tie up against the ropes. Quintero finishes with big right to the body.
Round 6 Ferguson throws his jab, Quintero counters to the body. Quintero lands his uppercut with Ferguson on the ropes. Both men slug it out in the middle of the ring; Ferguson slips and goes down, no knockdown.
Between rounds Ferguson’s corner tells him he needs a knockout to win.
Round 7 Ferguson lets his hands go, Quintero blocks most of the shots. Ferguson lands some good shots, combinations to the body. Quintero lands a solid left; Ferguson counters; Ferguson walks right into his punches. Ferguson suffers cut above the left eye due to a punch.
Round 8 Quintero comes out strong landing solid right hand; Ferguson stands face to face and slugs it out with Quintero. Ferguson holds Quintero punches out; the pace has slowed in the round. Ferguson never stops throwing punches; Quintero finishes stronger.
The fight goes to the score cards: 78-74, 79-73, 78-74 all for the winner Marvin Quintero.
