Why Carl Froch won’t quit the UK

froch49By Michael Payne: Over the last week there has been a lot of speculation that because of the problems with a lack of TV deal in the UK, Carl Froch (24-0, 19 KOs) could quit the UK completely & ply his trade in the USA after his fight with Jermain Taylor (28-2-1, 17 KOs) on April 25th. Carl is understandably angry with the lack of coverage but I cannot see him quitting the UK.

Firstly Carl may not have a following as big as some British fighters such as Hatton or Calzaghe but he has a very loyal fan base and in turn he has always been very loyal to them. He is extremely proud of the fans he has & he knows that if he were to quit the UK then he would be punishing them not the TV company’s who have snubbed him & if he can continue his success his British support will continue to grow.

Reason two is that he has always loved living in Nottingham. I believe if he was in the states all the time he would get home sick very quickly. He will have no issues at all with fighting in the states but for him to be there on a permanent basis just wouldn’t suit him. Also he would have a long way to travel to see his favorite football team Nottingham Forest FC.

Reason three is simply because one of Carl’s ambitions has always been to fight at the City Ground home of Nottingham Forest Football Club in front of a sell out crowd. If he were to move to America he would later regret not fulfilling this.

I understand why Carl is angry & if he beats Taylor he will fight in America more, simply because he wants to fight big names in big fights & there will be a lot of opportunities for him in the US, but there will also be opportunities in the UK & he will look to take advantage of both.
