Calzaghe – Froch Needs to Beat Taylor & Kessler to Become a Super Star

froch5443455By Jim Dower: In an article from The Sun, Joe Calzaghe chimes in on what World Boxing Council super middleweight champion Carl Froch (24-0, 19 KOs) needs to do to become a super star, saying all he has to do is first beat Jermain Taylor this Saturday night in the United States, and then “then take on and beat Mikkel Kessler convincingly.”

Is that all Froch has to do? I’m guessing Froch is internally grateful for those pearls of wisdom from Calzaghe, although if Joe was really interested in helping Froch to achieve super stardom even quicker he might want to consider coming out of retirement and giving him a fight.

I think that would get Froch’s name out front and center in the media much more than wins over Kessler and Taylor, that’s for sure.

Calzaghe sees the Taylor fight as crucial for bringing Froch to World class status if he can somehow beat Taylor. I agree with Calzaghe there, but again he’s not saying anything really earth shattering here. Of course, a win over Taylor, a former WBC/WBO middleweight champion and one of the best fighters in the World, will make Froch a World class fighter. How can it not?

And once again, Calzaghe pointed out that Froch needs to “forget about me now I’m retired.” Gee, thanks, Joe! I think Froch has pretty much gotten over Calzaghe and if Froch can look good in beating Taylor, Froch will be one of the biggest stars in England and a new star for the U.S. If anything, if Froch can look good on Saturday night, it might be Calzaghe who is the one that may be kicking himself for not fighting Froch when he had the chance.
