Statement From Warren; Jargal Defeats Nash; USA Boxing Review – News

Sports Network Limited has always paid every fighter what he was due, but in this case Joe Calzaghe demanded $4.6million (at a conversion rate equivalent to around £3.25million) which Sports Network regarded as exaggerated and fanciful. Sports Network, throughout the litigation, has always said that it would pay Joe Calzaghe but we disputed the sum he claimed (paragraph 16 of the Judgment:

“The Claimant [Sports Network Limited] does not dispute that a substantial sum of money is owed by the Claimant to the Defendant [Joe Calzaghe] in respect of the bout with Mr Hopkins although it does dispute that the sum owed is as large as alleged by the Defendant”). We were right to do so and feel vindicated in defending Joe’s claim which we have reduced by almost £1.5million. Our lawyers have advised Sports Network to appeal to reduce the sum even further, which it fully intends to do.

I am of course extremely disappointed that the Judge did not go further in accepting we had an agreement with Joe to promote his last fights. This is especially so as the Judge criticised Joe and his lawyer (Gareth Williams). The Judge found that Joe “chose to tell deliberate lies” to the Court (paragraph 138 of the Judgment), and that his “evidence was also unsatisfactory in many respects” (paragraph 134), finding that this “must impact, adversely, upon his credibility” (paragraph 138). The Judge also found that Gareth Williams “wished to hide” facts from the Court so as to create a “false impression” which “reflects badly” upon him (paragraph 107). He found that Gareth Williams “was prepared to advise the Defendant to provide wholly inaccurate information to Mr Warren” (paragraph 111).

BAYAN JARGAL WINS AGAIN IN VIRGINA!!!!!!!!!!! HOT LIGHTWEIGHT PROSPECT STAYS UNBEATEN

Undefeated lightweight prospect Bayan “THE MONGOLIAN MONGOOSE” Jargal scored a crushing third round knockout of Saginaw, Michigan’s Reggie “TWO GUNS” Nash on Saturday night at the Sportsplex in Winchester, Virginia.

Ending the scheduled eight rounder with a right hand, left hook combination at the 1:09 mark of the third stanza, Jargal improved his record to 11-0-1 (8 KO’s).

“Bayan was in great shape and is so heavy handed that he can knockout his opposition at any point in the fight. The crowd was thrilled by his performance and we’re hoping to have him fight again in April or early May” said promoter Terry Lane, President of Reno, Nevada’s “Let’s Get It On” Promotions.

“He’s ready for a TV fight right now, whether it’s something on ESPN or Shobox, that’s something we’re going to pursue. Fight fans will be thrilled to see Jargal in action.”

The knockout of Nash was Jargal’s second start in 2009, the first resulting in a first round stoppage of Walberto Gaxiola on January 23rd in Las Vegas.

Continued Lane, “We want Bayan to fight often this year as that will be important for his continued success.”

Jargal is managed by J.D. Brown who has managed former world champions William Joppy and DeMarcus Corley and also worked as an advisor for Sugar Ray Leonard.

Reno, Nevada based “Let’s Get It On” Promotions was founded in 2000 by legendary boxing referee Mills Lane. In early 2005 he was joined by sons Terry and Tommy in the operations of the company. Along with super middleweight contender Jesse Brinkley, “Let’s Get It On” Promotions also promotes lightweight prospect Bayan Jargal and highly regarded brothers Tyler and Derek Hinkey. They have consistently promoted world class boxing events on a national basis.

USA BOXING TO HOST TRAIN THE TRAINER CLINIC, MARCH 16-22 IN COLORADO
SPRINGS

USA Boxing is hosting the 2009 Train the Trainer Clinic, March 16-22, at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The event will provide valuable knowledge and information to coaches and officials from across the United States.

The 2009 edition will be the first Train the Trainer since 2005, and the first under USA Boxing High Performance Director, Patrick Borkowski. The sessions will be led by numerous sources, including United States Olympic Committee Sport Performance staff, elite coaches, top level officials, computer technicians and USA Boxing National Office staff.

Over 80 coaches and 50 officials will make the trip to Colorado Springs, and USA Boxing funded one official and one coach from each of the 57 local boxing committees. “Train the Trainer is a great opportunity for USA Boxing to share new ideas with a large number of coaches and officials, and will be the first of many events to come,” High Performance Director Patrick Borkowski said. “This clinic provides a unique chance for USA Boxing to show our support for the hard work of our grassroots coaches and officials while increasing communication between the national and local levels.”

The event will conclude with both the coaches and officials enjoying the opportunity to test to improve their levels within USA Boxing.

USA BOXING ATHLETE OF THE MONTH: WILLIAM MADERA

Name: William Madera
Age: 18

Hometown: Albany, NY
Height: 5′ 7″
Weight class: 141 lbs.
Coach’s name: Jerrick Jones
Club name: Albany Boxing

Like many football players, Will Madera needed to stay in shape in the off-season. He began boxing and after sticking with the sport for a few months, his coach asked him if he wanted to compete. After his first bout, he was hooked and made boxing his primary sport.

That was four years ago. Madera boxers out of the Albany Boxing Club under Jerrick Jones. The 18-year-old says his dedication, speed, and power are his greatest assets in the ring, and he credits his parents for his work ethic. “My mother loves me with all her heart,” he says. “She encourages me. She backs me 100 percent. My father as well.” Madera’s fondest boxing experience was attending and competing in last year’s National Golden Gloves in Grand Rapids, Mich. Although he did not bring home a championship, Madera says he learned a lot from the experience. Madera is currently a senior in high school and, upon graduation, will attend the
Hudson Valley Community College where he will study mortuary science in the hopes of taking over the family business. Since the school is close to home, Madera will continue to box while he takes classes. He plans on trying out for the 2012 U. S. Olympic team, and will then become a professional boxer.
