The problems are serious enough that Wladmir is looking in the direction of fighting American heavyweight Chris Arreola instead, according to Dan Rafael. If Wladimir does go ahead and back out of the fight, this leaves Haye without an opponent and having to either wait to on the winner of WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko and Juan Carlos Gomez on March 21st in Germany.

I doubt that Haye would want to take a chance in fighting a warm up bout while waiting for a big money fight with Vitali, knowing that there’s a chance at being cut or even knocked out with his history of having a weak chin. Haye stands to lose a lot if Wladimir decides on taking on Arreola, because that would meant that Haye would have to sit on the shelve for another five to six months waiting for a fight against the winner of Vitali-Gomez, and that’s a long time to be sitting around collecting dust for him.

Whatever the problem that is causing Wladimir to look towards Arreola, Haye needs to start groveling as fast possible so that he doesn’t destroy his big chance against Wladimir. After all, Wladimir is the star in this fight, not Haye, so as soon as David realizes that the better. Arreola might turn out to be the tougher opponent, because he’s proven it through 26 fights as a heavyweight as opposed to Haye, who’s fought only twice as a heavyweight against soft opposition.

On the bright side, Haye can always drag out Monte Barrett again, maybe this time he can beat him convincingly without getting dropped by Barrett like he did last time out. If Haye can stay upright, he might win a few fans in the U.S.
