East Rutherford, NJ- Former Junior-Welterweight champion DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley will face Wilson Enrique Galli of Uruguay in the ten-round main event of the February 3 Darwish Brothers Knockout Promotions show entitled “Knockout Night” at the Meadowlands Sheraton Hotel in East Rutherford, NJ.

Corley, 32-10-1 (18 KO) from Washington DC won the WBO 140 pound title when he knocked out Felix Flores in the first round in 2001. Corley made two successful defenses before losing a close decision to Zab Judah. Over the course of Corley’s career he has faced top caliber opposition, including near-knockouts of Miguel Cotto and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

“Hopefully he’s coming to fight because I’m coming to fight,” Corley says. “Come Tuesday night, there will be a knockout. Everybody is going to see a different Demarcus Corley. I badly want to be world champion again and Galli is standing in my way.”

After this fight Corley plans to target IBF junior-welterweight champion Juan Urango, which he calls “an easy fight.”

Galli, 31-8 (13 KO), is nicknamed “Topadora,” which translates in Spanish to “Bulldozer”. Galli’s professional career has seen him compete in five different countries but this will be his first appearance in America. Galli challenged for the WBO lightweight title and has hungered for another shot at the top.

“I’m very excited about this fight,” Galli says. “I’m coming to win this one. I’m still very capable and I will give it my best. They call me ‘Topadora’ because I always come forward and I’m going to bulldoze my opponent.”

“These two guys both need wins very badly,” says Wally Darwish. “With over 40 fights each and 30 wins, a win here could be a defining moment in their careers and lead to an opportunity to once again fight for a world championship. I’m very excited about this matchup.”

The rest of card will be announced shortly. This event is sponsored in part by Gold’s Gym of Teterboro, Martial Maxx of Teterboro, Lace of Wayne and Platinum Dollz of Clifton.

Hall Flags at Half-Staff for Ingemar Johansson

The International Boxing Hall of Fame announced its flags will fly at half-staff in memory of heavyweight champion Ingemar Johansson. He passed away yesterday in Sweden. He was 76.

Born in Gothenburg, Sweden, Johansson won a silver medal at the 1952 Olympics. He carried a tremendous knockout punch in his right hand, affectionately dubbed the “Hammer of Thor” and “Ingo’s Bingo.” In 1956 he
captured the European heavyweight title and successfully retained it twice, including a win over Henry Cooper. A sensational first round knockout over top contender Eddie Machen put Johansson in line for a shot at Floyd
Patterson’s heavyweight title and he astounded the boxing world by knocking Patterson down seven times in three rounds to claim the title on June 26, 1959. Patterson avenged the loss with a 5th round KO, and despite having Patterson down twice in their rubber match, Johansson succumbed in the 6th round. Johansson regained his European title and then retired in 1963 following a 12-round win over Brian London. A hero in his native land, his pro record reads 26-2 (17KOs).

“Ingemar Johansson captured the imagination of boxing fans in Sweden and all across the world,” said Hall of Fame Executive Director Edward Brophy. “The Hall of Fame is saddened to learn of his passing and joins the boxing community in mourning his death.”

In 2002, Johansson was elected into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

CAMACHO, MAKING TRANSITION FROM PROSPECT TO CONTENDER, TAKES ON MOLINA ON FRIDAY THE 13TH

Star Boxing’s welterweight prospect, Alexis Camacho (17-1,16KO) will look to make the transition from highly thought of prospect to contender when he takes on the very dangerous Carlos Molina (14-4-1,5KO) on Friday February 13th at New York’s famed Roseland Ballroom. The bout between Camacho and Molina is promoted by Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing and will be shown live as the main event of that evenings ESPN2 “Friday Night Fights” telecast. Camacho vs. Molina is scheduled for ten rounds in the welterweight division.

ALEXIS CAMACHO

The 27-year-old heavy handed Camacho, who hails from Mexico but now resides in Austin, TX, last saw action November 14th stopping Edvan Dos Santos Barros in the second round of their scheduled ten rounder. The fight marked the second time the young Camacho fought as the co-feature bout on a nationally televised broadcast. Now Camacho looks to feed off his latest victory and break into the spotlight in his first nationally televised main event. Camacho carries dynamite in both of his hands and can end the show at any point during the fight.

CARLOS MOLINA

The 25-year-old Molina, who also hails from Mexico, but now lives in Chicago, is a very tough and dangerous opponent, currently riding a 6 fight win streak. The only blemishes on his record have come against undefeated opponents, including a highly disputed draw and majority decision loss to jr. middleweight prospect Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Molina has a very fan friendly style as he rarely takes a step back and puts constant pressure on his opponents, which will make for a very entertaining match-up with the knockout artist Camacho.

“This is going to be an all out war come Friday the 13th. You have two Mexican warriors who are going in there with one thing in mind and that’s going right at the other guy and throwing everything they have at them. We expect this fight to be a non-stop punching, all-action affair. Both of these guys wear their hearts on their sleeves and will leave it all on the line come February 13th,” said Joe DeGuardia, CEO of Star Boxing.
