dirrell233By Scott Gilfoid: Super middleweight talent Andre Dirrell (21-1, 14 KO’s) needs to put in another superb performance when steps inside the ring on April 12th against the capable Ossie Duran (28-10-2, 11 KO’s) in a bout scheduled for 10 rounds in Shelton, Washington.

This is a good a match-up for Dirrell because Duran punches like a mule kicks, and he’s got an iron chin that other fighters would just die for. Dirrell will be getting pressured a lot in this fight, and it’ll give him a lot of good work to get him ready for the kind of pressure he’ll be getting against Carl Froch, Mikkel Kessler and Arthur Abraham when he’s back in the thick of things next year.

It’s probably going to take about one year of steady fights for Dirrell to get ranked high enough to land a nice title shot.

Duran, 35, has oodles of experience, as he’s been in with all kinds of talented fighters like Fernando Guerrero, David Lopez and Latif Mundy. The experience is there, and he’s going to really give Dirrell some valuable rounds for as long as this fight lasts.

Dirrell, 29, needs to really shine in this fight and his future fights so that he can get back on television to become one of the stars in the 168 pound division.

Dirrell has had some problems in the past few years that have kept him from moving forward with his career despite having amazing talent. Out of the top tier of super middleweights in the division, Dirrell has the best set of skills. He’s got it all basically – speed, power, foot movement, and defensive skills. Dirrell has the entire package going for him.

What he needs now is to make up for lost time because the injury that he received in his fight against Arthur Abraham in April 2010, caused Dirrell to miss at least two fights in 2010, and an additional two in 2011. Dirrell failed to fight at all in 2012. So what we’re looking at here is seven missed fights for Dirrell.
