Ward: Kovalev gets frustrated when he can’t KO his opponents

Kov_Ward Presser

By Allan Fox: Former super middleweight champion Andre “SOG” Ward (30-0, 15 Kos) questions the conditioning of IBF/IWBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev (30-0-1, 26 KOs), and he believes he’s going to take advantage of it on November 19 when the two of them face each other on HBO PPV.

Ward says he’s seen only one of Kovalev’s fights, and yet he’s seen enough of him from the one fight to know that he gets frustrated when he can’t get a KO in his fights. It’s unclear what fight that Ward saw of Kovalev, because he didn’t seem to get frustrated when he went the full 12 rounds against his last opponent Isaac Chilemba or in his fight against Bernard Hopkins in 2014.

Can Golovkin beat the top 175lb fighters?

golovkin633

By Allan Fox: Unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) is on the verge of cleaning out the 160lb division once he beats Daniel Jacobs, Billy Joe Saunders and Saul Canelo Alvarez.

Golovkin may not need to defeat Saunders, because he’ll likely be eliminated in early 2017 once he fights the young 26-year-old Canelo Alvarez in a fight that will almost surely wind up on HBO pay-per-view in the United States.

Andre Ward isn’t ready for Kovalev says Abel Sanchez

ward-kovalev (6)

By Allan Fox: Light heavyweight champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev’s former trainer Abel Sanchez thinks unbeaten former super middleweight champion Andre “SOG” Ward (30-0, 15 KOs) isn’t ready to take on a top 175lb fighter like Kovalev (30-0-1, 26 KOs), and he expects him to lose their fight on November 19 on HBO pay-per-view at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Sanchez thinks the 32-year-old Ward was a great fighter many years ago when he was in the Super Six tournament from 2009 to 2011, but that fighter no longer seems to exist. Ward has changed, and Sanchez has seen that. Further, Sanchez feels that Ward is taking too quick of a step up in facing the 33-year-old Kovalev in just his third fight since moving up to light heavyweight.

Kovalev-Ward WON’T decide No.1 P-4-P; Golovkin still best says Roach

kovalev

By Allan Fox: Trainer Freddie Roach says the winner of the Sergey Kovalev vs. Andre Ward fight next month won’t decide who the best pound-for-pound fighter is in his view, because he still believes that middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin is the best fighter in the sport of boxing pound-for-pound.

If anything, Roach says the winner of the November 5th fight between Kovalev and Ward will bring the winner closer to where Golovkin is, but it WON’T make them better than him.

What Kovalev and Ward have going against them is that neither of them has looked good in their recent tune-up fights. Kovalev, 33, struggled to beat Isaac Chilemba last July in Russia, and Ward has looked poor in three straight fights since making his comeback. Neither fighter looks like a No.1 pound-for-pound fighter, because they’re not dominating the 175lbd vision in an effortless manner the way that Golovkin is at 160.

Kovalev’s trainer: Ward will need a Plan-B or Plan C

ward-kovalev (8)

By Dan Ambrose: Trainer John David Jackson thinks that Andre “SOG” Ward is going to need to have a Plan-B or Plan-C to fall back on next month when he faces IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev on November 19 on HBO pay-per-view from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jackson notes that the 32-year-old Ward likes to switch from the orthodox stance to southpaw often during his fights.

Jackson feels that Kovalev is going to nail Ward with a big shot while he’s in the southpaw stance that is going to make him forget about using that strategy for the remainder of the fight. Ward will then need to have some kind of backup plan to use against Kovalev for him to stay competitive, because the fight could get out of hand very quickly if Ward continues to try and fight southpaw.

Kovalev vs. Ward: Keys to the Fight

ward-kovalev (1)

By Ken Woods: The light heavyweight championship bout between Sergey Kovalev (30-0-1, 26 KOs) and Andre Ward (30-0, 15 KOs) is approximately a month away (Nov. 19, HBO pay-per-view) and is one of the most anticipated fights of the year. The keys to the battle are detailed below.

Andre Ward

Smother, smother, smother

Ward is a competent inside fighter and stronger than he appears. We have seen his ability to smother his opponent’s punches and invade their space in the Mikkel Kessler fight and the Carl Froch contest. He will need to do more of that in this match. Kovalev is very adept at keeping the contest on the outside, counter punching and setting traps. So, in order to nullify that strength, Ward will have to get close, restrict his punches and create angles for hooks and uppercuts. Also, stifling him will not allow him to get off with his power, which is his best asset.

Ward: Golovkin fight will NEVER happen!

ward1

By Allan Fox: Unbeaten light heavyweight contender Andre Ward says he’s NEVER going to fight unbeaten middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, because he had his chance he failed to take it. Ward is fighting in the 175lb division now, and he says he’s NOT going to move back down in weight at this point. In other words, if there’s ever to be a fight between them, it would need to be at light heavyweight if GGG decided to move up two weigh classes to make it happen.

Considering that Golovkin is no bigger than some of the fighters in the 147lb division like Errol Spence Jr., it doesn’t make a lot of sense for Golovkin up two weight classes to fight someone who would have a tremendous weight advantage over him like Andre.

Kovalev-Ward: If Andre loses will he blame it on a lack of size?

kovalev

By Allan Fox: IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight Sergey Kovalev (30-0-1, 26 KOs) will be putting his unbeaten record on the line next month against Oakland native Andre Ward (30-0, 15 KOs) on November 19 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. With Ward moving up in weight from the 168lb division, it leaves the question of whether he’ll use his weight as an excuse if things go badly for him if he loses to Kovalev.

I must admit that the weight is a perfect excuse for Ward if he gets beaten by Kovalev. He can tell the boxing media and fans that he didn’t have the size to compete against Kovalev. Ward would then be able to move back down to super middleweight to resume fighting in that division.

Sanchez: Golovkin should be #1 P-4-P, not Ward or Kovalev

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-52

By Allan Fox: For the time being, trainer Abel Sanchez believes that his fighter IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) should be the number one pound-for-pound fighter in boxing unless the winner of the Andre” SOG” Ward vs. Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev fight on November 19 proves that they should take the top pound-for-pound honors.

Right now, Sanchez believes that Golovkin deserves the top spot, because of the way he’s dominated the middleweight division. Ward just recently moved up to super middleweight, and he has a lot to prove. Even if Ward beats Kovalev, there are dangerous fights against Adonis Stevenson and Artur Beterbiev that Ward would need to win before he could prove himself as the No.1 fighter in the 175lb division.

Kovalev beats Ward says Roger Mayweather

kovalev

By Allan Fox: Roger Mayweather, the former trainer of Floyd Mayeather Jr, is picking IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev (30-0-1, 26 KOs) to defeat challenger Andre “SOG” Ward (30-0, 15 KOs) in their fight on November 19 on HBO pay-per-view from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Kovalev, 33, is seen as the underdog in the minds of a lot of boxing fans, as they feel that Ward will have too many skills for the Russian fighter. analysis

Roger Mayweather said to Fighthype.com about the Kovalev-Ward fight:
