Kovalev ready for Andre Ward’s holding

kovalev974

By Allan Fox: IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev expects challenger Andre Ward to do a great deal of holding/wrestling on November 19 when the two of them face each other. Kovalev says he’s ready for the wrestling from Ward. His trainer John David Jackson has no doubt been preparing for Ward’s holing style of fighting, so it shouldn’t be as much of a surprise to him as it’s been for many of Ward’s past opponents.

They weren’t ready for the wrestling on the inside from Ward, and it cost them big time.
It’s going to be real interesting to see what happens if Ward chooses to do a lot of holding.

Ward says Kovalev fight a 50-50 affair

ward333

By Allan Fox: According to Andre Ward (30-0, 15 KOs) his fight against IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (30-0-1, 26 KOs) is a 50-50 toss-up fight between them on November 19 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, Ward says that he sees ALL of his fights as 50-50 affairs going into them, so he sees Kovalev as being no different from the guys that he’s been in against in the past.

Ward, 32, isn’t exactly giving Kovalev much credit for being a better fighter than past Ward opponents like Alexander Brand, Paul Smith, Sullivan Barrera, Edwin Rodriguez and Chad Dawson. It would be hard to keep the average boxing fan from laughing in the fact of Ward if he were to tell them that Kovalev is no different than those guys that he’s faced in the past.

Kovalev will knockout Ward: The Marciano Factor

ward-kovalev (1)

By Jaime Ortega: Andre Ward versus Sergei Kovalev is without cast of doubt the fight of the year. Both boxers are undefeated and present different characteristics that make the clash an epic one – possibly a trilogy series depending on how it ends. The light heavyweight division badly lacked the crux of a super-bout and finally after many years — it is here.

Adonis Stevenson is probably the biggest duck in the sport of boxing today. He and his team have avoided a unification bout with Kovalev for a few years now. Stevenson is going to regret not clashing heads with Kovalev — if Artur Beterbiev a knockout machine and a superb boxer — decides to challenge the current WBC title holder.

Ward sees no point in shaking Kovalev’s hand

YouTube video

By Allan Fox: Former super middleweight champion Andre “SOG” Ward appeared to upset IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev when he ignored him at their recent press conference to hype their fight this month on November 19 on HBO pay-per-view. Ward says he doesn’t care about what Kovalev may be thinking, and he doesn’t see any point in shaking the Russian fighters’ hand before the fight.

In Ward’s mind, Kovalev is going out there to try and hurt him on November 19, and he plans on not letting him accomplish that goal. Ward has some strategies he’s going to use to keep Kovalev from being able to land his big shots.

Sergey Kovalev & Andre Ward Blogs: Part 2

Kov_Ward Presser

Does headlining a PPV event change the way you approach a fight? How much more responsibilities you have? Does that affect your training?

Sure HBO pay-per-view is very important to me; this is big deal. This is my first pay-per-view fight. I think all fighters goal is to be pay-per-view fighter, but it takes hard work and not everybody can do this. For this fight I did more interviews than before because we want to get more fans, but this is part of my job. I am still learning English, I try to learn more all the time. I am more used to this now, so it becomes little more easy speaking English for interviews. I know it’s important because I want fans to come to T-Mobile Arena and to buy pay per view to watch my fight against Andre Ward. Media is only difference this time because this is such big fight. I do every training camp in same way. First I go to physical training in Big Bear, I run, ride bike, lift weights, I exercise, and stretch to get in shape. After physical training I go to boxing training camp. I spar and I work with my coach John David Jackson in boxing ring. My sparring partners change, but most of the time my training is same. I work very hard; I must give 100% in each camp. This is my job; this is what I should do.

Kovalev: I’m going to kick Ward’s backside

kovalev5

By Allan Fox: IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev says it’s going to be a war when he gets Andre Ward inside the ring on November 19 in their long awaited fight on HBO pay-per-view from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ward doesn’t plan on letting the fight turn into a war, as he wants to use his boxing skills to beat Kovalev in a tactical fight. If Kovalev can turn the fight into a war on November 19, then he definitely has a good chance of winning.

Roach: Andre Ward isn’t the same fighter

Kov_Ward Presser

By Allan Fox: Andre Ward’s last three fights in his comeback hasn’t fully convinced trainer Freddie Roach that he’s going to come out ahead in his fight next month against IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev (30-0-1, 26 KOs) on November 19.

Roach continues to believe that Ward is not same fighter he was before his two year absence from the boxing ring from 2013 to 2015. Ward has come back to win his last three fights against Paul Smith, Sullivan Barrera and Alexander Brand, but he’s not looked like the fighter he was in the distant past.

Kovalev is a better fighter than Ward says Sanchez

1-11.07_kovalev-chelemba_sf_22

By All Fox: Andre Ward (30-0, 15 KOs) doesn’t have the size, willingness to fight, or the talent to beat IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (30-0-1, 26 KOs), according to the “Krusher” Kovalev’s former trainer Abel Sanchez, who currently trains unbeaten middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin.

Sanchez says that Ward is too focused on being technical in his fights, and not willing to mix it up the way he’d need to be able to for him to beat the more powerful Kovalev. The two fighters are going to be facing each other soon on November 19 on HBO pay-per-view from the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens in the fight if Ward is going to spend the entire fight just trying not to get hit instead of delivering blows.
