BROOKLYN (July 13, 2016) – Former two-division world champion Paulie Malignaggi is set to defend Brooklyn’s World Championship Belt in a 10-round welterweight showdown after being challenged on Twitter this afternoon by fellow Brooklyn-native Gabriel Bracero on Saturday, July 30 live on SHOWTIME EXTREME.

This version of the “Battle for Brooklyn” will once again have local bragging rights on the line, with both men looking to impress in front of a hometown crowd.

Dibella & Malignaggi talk Golovkin vs. Brook fight

golovkin633

By Chris Williams: You can add promoter Lou Dibella and former two-division world champion Paulie Malignaggi to the growing group of people that are NOT pleased with the news of IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin choosing to defend his titles against welterweight Kell Brook on September 10 in London, England.

Dibella thinks Brook has no chance of winning the fight due to him not having the size to compete against the heaver Golovkin. Dibella does like both fighters, but he thinks that the fight will be won because of Golovkin’s superior size. for his part, Malignaggi is worried that the lack of respect for weight classes could get someone hurt.

Paulie Malignaggi vs. Gabriel Bracero in the works for July 30

malignaggi133

By Patrick McHugh: Former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi (35-7, 7 KOs) could be back inside the ring next month against 35-year-old Gabriel Bracero (24-2, 5 KOs) on the undercard of the Leo Santa Cruz vs. Carl Frampton fight card on July 30 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The Malignaggi-Bracero fight is in the process of being finalized, according to Dan Rafael.

Malignaggi won his last bout against Italian Antonio Moscatiello (21-3-1, 14 KOs) by a one-sided 12 round unanimous decision to win the vacant EBU-EU welterweight title last December on the undercard of the Anthony Joshua vs. Dillian Whyte card.

Malignaggi won his previous fight against Lazlo Fazekas last September by an eight round decision. Before that, Malignaggi was stopped in the 9th round by Danny Garcia in August of last year.

Malignaggi analyzes Thurman vs. Porter

malignaggi7

By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi sees this Saturday’s fight between WBA World welterweight champion Keith “One Time’ Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) and Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) as a weeding out process between two of the top five fighters in the 147lb division. Thurman will be defending his WBA 147lb title at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. the fight will be televised on Showtime Championship Boxing.

Malignaggi doesn’t necessarily believe that Porter and Thurman are the top two fighters at welterweight. They still need to prove themselves against each other and the other remaining three top welterweights, which Malignaggi didn’t name.

It’s likely that Malignaggi sees Errol Spence, Danny Garcia and Kell Brook as the three other guys. You could possibly substitute one or those names with Tim Bradley, David Avanesyan, Jessie Vargas and Andre Berto. Those are all quality fighters that could potentially take the No.1 spot, although it’s not likely.

Malignaggi: Wilder-Povetkin should be canceled, not postponed

povetkin3By Dan Ambrose: Former two-time world champion Paulie Malignaggi thinks the Deontay Wilder vs. Alexander Povetkin heavyweight match should be canceled altogether and Povetkin should be removed from the #1 mandatory position with the World Boxing Council.

This comes after the WBC announcing earlier on Sunday that the Wilder-Povetkin fight will be postponed after Povetkin tested positive for the banned substance Meldonium.

Canelo still has same flaws, says Malignaggi

malignaggi965By Dan Ambrose: Paulie Malignaggi was impressed with some of the things he saw from Saul “Canelo” Alvarez last Saturday night in his win over Amir Khan, but for the most part, Canelo looked like the same flawed fighter that he’d seen in the past from his past fights.

Malignaggi thinks Canelo will lose to Gennady Golovkin right now with his current flawed fighting style. Malignaggi didn’t like the way Canelo failed to use his jab in the fight. He was just looking to land big power shots and forgetting about jabbing. As a result, Khan was able to jab Canelo frequently in the first four rounds to control the fight.

Malignaggi: Mayweather is the best fighter of this generation

Floyd MayweatherBy Chris Williams: Paulie Malignaggi disagrees with HBO’s Max Kellerman in his opinion about Manny Pacquiao being the top fighter of this era. Malignaggi sees the top fighter being Floyd Mayweather Jr. If there’s any question about who the best fighter was during this era, Malignaggi says for the boxing fans to go back and re-watch the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight from last May and note how one-sided the fight was in Mayweather’s favor.

Pacquiao lost that fight by a 12 round decision in a fairly one-sided fight. Pacquiao and many of his fans believe that he should have been given the decision in the contest despite the fact that he was fighting with just one good arm due to him having suffered a torn right rotator cuff before the fight.

Malignaggi wants rematch with Adrien Broner

broner222By Jeff Aranow: 35-year-old former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi (35-7, 7 KOs) is hoping to get a rematch with Adrien “The Problem” Broner (32-2, 24 KOs) after three years following his controversial 12 round split decision loss to Broner in 2013.

Malignaggi has lost two out of his last five fights and looks to be all but finished with his pro career. However, he still feels that the 26-year-old Broner should have to go through him if he wants a big money fight against Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. in the near future.

Broner probably won’t get a fight against Mayweather no matter which fighter he beats in the near future. Mayweather is retired from the sport now, and he sees nothing in Broner’s game but flaws that need work.

Canelo-Khan are disrespecting weight classes, says Malignaggi

malignaggi4444By Dan Ambrose: A lot of boxing fans feel that Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) is making a grave error in stepping up a couple of weight classes to challenge WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) at a catch-weight of 155lbs on May 7. Former world champion Paulie Malignaggi is one of many who thinks this is a bad idea for Khan.

Malignaggi says that Khan and Canelo are both disrespecting the weight classes with this fight. Malignaggi is one of the old school fighters who believes that you should stay in your weight class, and fights guys that don’t outweigh you or who are much lighter than you.

Canelo is technically giving Khan a break by fighting him at a catch-weight of 155lbs instead of at the full weight of 160 pounds for the middleweight division. However, it’s really not an advantage that Canelo is giving Khan, because he’s quite good at melting down from the 170s to fight at 155.

Malignaggi: Dominic Wade must be focused against Golovkin

1-golovkin-wade (10)By Dan Ambrose: Former two belt world champion Paulie Malignaggi believes that unbeaten challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) is going to need to be totally focused for the full 12 rounds of the fight next month against IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) in their fight on HBO Championship Boxing from the Forum, in Inglewood, California.

Malignaggi sees Golovkin’s constant pressure as something that would drive a fighter crazy to be on the receiving end of that experience for a full 12 rounds, because it forces that fighter to be focused constantly without let up. There’s nonstop danger in a fight against Golovkin because he’s always there directly in front of his opponents looking to take their heads off with each shot he throws.
