Toney Wants Bout with Hopkins – News
By Eric Thomas: With no fights on his schedule, former super middleweight champion James Toney (71-6-3, 43 KOs) is interested in a fight with middleweight great Bernard Hopkins at cruiserweight. In an interview with Boxing Talk, Toney said “The punk [referring to Hopkins] was supposed to fight me at cruiserweight, but you go and run out on me…Here I am, don’t back out like a sissy. Step up to the plate and get knocked out.”
Joe Calzaghe – A True Great?
By Ash Choudhury: With the recent announcement of Joe Calzaghe’s retirement, questions are being asked as to whether his amazing record of 46-0 has been padded or if it truly reflects his greatness. Just the name Calzaghe creates many differences in opinion between boxing experts and casual fans alike. Some say that his record is lacks any real defining fights as his fights with Hopkins and Jones came too late, whereas others believe he beat everyone that was put in front of him.
Toney Predicts Knockout Of Hopkins
By Jim Dower: According to an article from Fightnews, heavyweight James Toney (71-6-3, 43 KOs) said that he’d be willing to move down to 185 pounds to fight Bernard Hopkins (49-5-1, 32 KOs) and that he would knock Bernard out. In light of the 40-year-old Toney’s recent poor showing against Fres Oquendo, a 12-round split decision victory in December, as well as Toney’s equally dismal performances against Hasim Rahman and Danny Batchelder in 2007 and 2008, I find it hard to imagine that Toney could beat a fighter as good as Hopkins at this point.
Is Toney A Shot Fighter?
By William Mackay: In the past eight fights spanning three years time, heavyweight James Toney (71-6-3, 43 KOs) has won three fights, lost two with another two ending as no decisions and one a draw. If that’s not an indication of a fighter that has seen better days than I don’t what is. Toney, 40, appears to have run into the limits of his fading talent in the last handful of fights, showing that he’s lost a couple of steps, slowed down a lot with his hand speed and along with it his once high work rate.

Toney Decisions Oquendo, Looks Terrible
By Chris Williams: Right about now, heavyweight James Toney (71-6-3, 43 KOs) should considerate himself very fortunate that he didn’t lose to Fres Oquendo (29-5, 18 KOs) on Saturday night at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa, in Cabazon, California, because from what I saw of the fight, Toney lost every round except for the 8th and 9th. Indeed, he looked nothing short of terrible in getting a gift 12-round split decision victory over Oquendo to win both the vacant International Boxing Association heavyweight and WBO NABO heavyweight titles.
