Image: Gennady Golovkin vs. Daniel Jacobs 30-day weights

By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) weighed in at 165.1 pounds on Saturday for the World Boxing Council’s mandated 30-day weigh-in for his March 18 fight against Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) at Madison Square Garden in New York. Jacobs weighed in almost 10 pounds heavier at 174.8 lbs. The WBC’s limit for the check weight was 176 lbs.

Golovkin usually rehydrates to around 170 lbs. on the night of his fights. I can’t see him deviating from this practice.

Canelo’s $15M offer to Golovkin is unfair says Hunter

Image: Canelo’s $15M offer to Golovkin is unfair says Hunter

By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Virgil Hunter doesn’t agree with the $15 million offer that Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions is making to IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin for a fight in September. Hunter thinks Canelo and Golden Boy are waiting for Golovkin to get old before they fight him. Golovkin is about to turn 35, so it’s quite possible that they can wait him out until he’s older and no longer the fighter he is today before finally agreeing to fight him.

As far as Hunter is concerned, it’s not a fair offer that Canelo is giving to Triple G, because he wouldn’t be making the big money if he wasn’t fighting the Kazakhstan star. Hunter sees Canelo and Golden Boy waiting Golovkin out until he gets old or gets beaten by someone before they chose to fight him. He can understand that move, because it keeps Canelo from taking another loss on his record.

Canelo-Golovkin still the plan for September says Eric Gomez

Image: Canelo-Golovkin still the plan for September says Eric Gomez

By Jeff Aranow: Golden Boy Promotions President Eric Gomez says that his company is still planning on matching their star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs0 in a big pay-per-view fight on HBO in September of this year.

That’s the idea that Golden Boy still wants to carry out. However, before the Canelo-Golovkin fight can take place, both fighters will need to get through their fights before then. Golovkin has a WBA ordered fight against Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) on March 18 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Jacobs: I consider myself the underdog against Golovkin

Image: Jacobs: I consider myself the underdog against Golovkin

By Jeff Aranow: Danny Jacobs freely admits that he’s the underdog against the unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin for their fight in one month from now on March 18 at Madison Square Garden in New York. However, Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) only considers himself an underdog in the fight because of Golovkin being on top as a world champion for seven years since 2010.

Jacobs has only been the WBA champion since 2014, and he beat a vulnerable fighter in Jarrod Fletcher to win the vacant strap. Jacobs points out that throughout the history of boxing, underdogs have frequently beaten the favorite, and he feels that he’s going to be doing the same thing against the 34-year-old Golovkin.

Golovkin isn’t athletic the way Jacobs is says Algieri

Image: Golovkin isn’t athletic the way Jacobs is says Algieri

By Dan Ambrose: Former WBO light welterweight champion Chris Algieri says that Gennady “GGG” Golovkin lacks the athletic talent that he sees in Danny Jacobs, and he feels that he’s going to possibly beat the Kazakhstan fighter. Algieri is in Hayward, California to help Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) by working on his nutrition for the GGG fight.

Jacobs is working out of trainer Virgil Hunter’s gym in Hayward. Aligeri is impressed with what he’s seen of Jacobs during camp, as he sees him as a very big puncher with power in both hands. He’s mostly impressed with the 29-year-old Jacobs’ athletic ability and he sees that as being key when he faces the unbeaten Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) on March 18 in their fight on HBO pay-per-view at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Image: 2017 Shaping Up Well For Boxing

By Nick Hagan: After a really disappointing 2016, 2017 is already shaping up to be a great year for Boxing. So far to date we have already seen Carl Frampton v Leo Santa Cruz in a fantastic rematch. It may not have been as enthralling as the first match up but still very decent. Just before this we saw De Gale v Jack in a unification fight and what could well be a contender for fight of the year. So enjoyed watching this fight and great to see both Boxers giving it there all.

Image: Jacobs says he has several game plans for Golovkin

By Jeff Aranow: Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) has a game plan that he and his trainer Andre Rozier have come up with for his fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) in their fight on March 18. Jacobs says he’ll be ready to switch to his backup Plan-B and Plan C if things don’t work out with his initial strategy for the fight against Triple G.

Jacobs is training in Virgil Hunter’s gym in Hayward, California for the Golovkin fight. Jacobs wanted to be away from his home in New York so that he could focus on the Golovkin fight.

Image: Gennady Golovkin vs. Billy Joe Saunders possible for summer

By Jeff Aranow: WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders could be facing IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in a unification fight in the summer if Golovkin wins his next fight against Daniel Jacobs on March 18.

Saunders is supposed to be facing a very dangerous opponent in #1 WBO Avtandil Khurtsidze in his next fight, but could give him a step aside feel so that he can get out of that fight temporarily.

Canelo says Golovkin was given offer he doesn’t deserve

Image: Canelo says Golovkin was given offer he doesn’t deserve

By Dan Ambrose: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez says Gennady “GGG” Golovkin has already been given an offer that he doesn’t deserve in the $15 million offer Golden Boy made to him for a fight in September this year. Canelo says that if Golovkin doesn’t accept the offer then there is no fight between them. Unfortunately, it sounds like the offer from Golden Boy and Canelo to Golovkin was a ‘take it or leave it offer’ rather than a starting point for negotiations.

There’s a lot of boxing fans that want to see Golovkin and Canelo fight each other. They’re both very popular fighters.

Golovkin beats Canelo says Lomachenko

Image: Golovkin beats Canelo says Lomachenko

By Dan Ambrose: As far as WBO super featherweight champion Vasy Lomachenko is concerned, IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin will beat Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez when the two of them face each in September if the fight takes place then. Lomachenko sees Golovkin as a monster with huge power.

Lomachenko isn’t the only one that is impressed with Golovkin’s power and skill. Former cruiserweight world title challenger Ola Afolabi rates Golovkin’s power as good as a heavyweight, because he’s sparred with him before in the past.
