By Chris Williams: Gennady Golovkin is going to need to work for each punch he lands against Daniel Jacobs because he’s not going to let him connect with his power shots. Jacobs is well aware that Golovkin is a huge puncher, and for that reason, he doesn’t plan on letting him connect with his shots. Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) had problems hitting his last opponent Kell Brook last year. Jacobs has seen everything that Brook did in that fight, and he knows how to avoid letting him land anything on him.

Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) and Golovkin will be fighting for the top No.1 spot in the middleweight division on Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York. Golovkin says Madison Square Garden is his home, but it’s an area where Jacobs comes from. Boxing fans that come to the fight will be backing Jacobs for the most part, not Golovkin. HBO will be televising the Golovkin vs. Jacobs fight on pay-per-view.

Jacobs says he’s not going to be intimidated by Golovkin. He’s been there before and he knows what it takes to beat the Kazakhstan fighter. The guys that fought Golovkin before in the past were afraid before they got inside the ring with him, and they failed to perform at a high level.

“I’m looking at whatever works,” said Jacobs to secondsout.com about his strategy for the Golovkin fight. “In boxing, you can go in there, you’re going to do this or that, and then you’re posed by a certain threat and it’s up to you to adjust and that’s what I’m going to do. We have a game plan set for it, but if we need to go to Plan-B or Plan-C, we’re going to be ready to do that as well. I’m a very diverse fighter, and I believe I’m not one to get intimidated by a lot of things that other guys got intimidated and a lot of things that other guys got intimidated by,” said Jacobs.

There’s no point in being intimidated by Triple G. Jacobs has to stick with his game plan for what got him to this point, and to make sure that he doesn’t let Golovkin get his shots off. Smother his offense. That’s the best way. Kell Brook already created the blueprint in how to beat Golovkin. All Jacobs needs to do is follow the plan o the letter and he should be alright. Golovkin looked slow, beatable, and limited against Brook. He also looked like a fighter with poor stamina. If Jacobs can take advantage of all the problems Golovkin has, he should be able to beat him going away.

“Power is power, but you’ve got to hit an opponent too,” said Jacobs.” I know I’m in there with a power puncher, and I’m going to embrace it a little bit more and not get caught off guard in a sense. If they’re making this guy out to be a power puncher, then we’re doing everything that we don’t get hit with those power punches. I’m not scared of this guy,” said Jacobs about Golovkin.

I think it’s going to be a long night of hitting air for Golovkin this Saturday night. Jacobs is ready to give him a boxing lesson he won’t soon forget.
