Froch vs. DeGale: Is Carl too shot to beat James?

froch5629By Oliver Norager: It has be rumored that former WBC/IBF/WBA-champion Carl “The Cobra” Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) is thinking about a return to the ring to face IBF champion James DeGale (21-1, 14 KOs) to try to get his old title back and show the people what the Cobra is really about.

Froch, himself, has said that he was thinking about a return to the ring, but has not decided yet. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, has said that if Froch returns, he will fight either Gennady Golovkin or DeGale.

The sport of boxing is really missing the likes of Froch, because he is a warrior. He is really rough and tough and wants to take a shot only to give one back as well. Carl Froch has really in reality driven his natural-born talent to even more than what he should be able to.
Throughout his career he has fought better technician fighters than him, like Andre Ward, Mikkel Kessler, Jermain Taylor, Andre Dirrell and so on, but somehow he has always find a way to give them fighters a really good nights work, because of his toughness and heart. Of course he has been beaten by both Kessler and Ward. But even in those fight he did his best and was never really outclassed, although the got beat fair and square.

The super-middleweight division that Froch fought in is really in a bad place. You got champions like WBC-champion Badou Jack and WBO champion Arthur Abraham. Those guys would never be champions if the division was like it was before, when you had guys like Froch, Kessler, Calzaghe and Andre Ward was active. That’s a shame that these guys are champions.

If Froch return it would be against James DeGale. That is a really difficult comeback-fight when Froch has nearly has been out 2 years, when the fight comes around. Froch seems like a machine who needs to be polished often otherwise he will be really rusty and to come back against a awkward fighter like DeGale, that is a tough ask. But it also shows Froch is a old school fighter who wants to fight the best in the division. DeGale has been beaten by George Groves, who Froch knocked out two times. That does not tell you a lot, because DeGale has really improved his boxing and become more of a man i the ring. If the fight happens it comes down to who really wants it the most. Does Froch really have the same desire? Is DeGale really that good? It remains to been seen.

If the Froch that came into the Abraham fight, the Kessler fights and the Groves rematch, for sure he will beat DeGale, because he is no Andre Ward, that has enough talent to beat Froch, but if Froch comes into the fight rusty and without the same desire – DeGale has a big chance in the fight.
