golovkin1234(Photo credit: HBO/Will Hart) By Chris Williams: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26 KOs) and his opponent Daniel Geale (30-2, 16 KOs) both successfully weighed in today in New York for their fight on Saturday night on HBO from Madison Square Garden. Both guys weighed almost the same with Golovkin coming in at 159.8 pounds, and Geale at 159.2lbs.

They looked in excellent shape for the fight. Golovkin played it cool during the face off and didn’t seem to be trying to intimidate the 33-year-old Geale. It was a friendly thing.

Geale had earlier said this at the fighter meetings: “I think his [Golovkin] weakness is his confidence. He has that huge amount of confidence. I’m going to break it and do my thing.”

Geale is dead on correct. Golovkin’s confidence could very well be his weakness, because he’s always had things his own way in fights against guys that didn’t have the boxing skills, the mobility or the defensive skills to cause him problems to where he had some doubts. There’s a lot of ego with Golovkin right now, as he seems to think he’s unbeatable. When you get a guy like that reading his own press clipping then that’s when they get beat.

If Geale can instill those doubts in the mind of Golovkin on Saturday, he could put him in a state of panic and confusion to where he doesn’t know what to do. Once Geale has him like that, he might pull off a miracle upset by knocking him out in front of what should be a large HBO audience.

Golovkin said “Outside of the ring I’m a gentleman. Predator instinct. It’s inside. I feel it inside. Killer instinct. I see blood. I wait and then I finish him. My family is one world. My job is different. Outside and inside. Inside I’m Triple G. Outside, I’m Gennady.”

Golovkin is starting to sound like he’s become too wrapped up into his own hype and sees himself as being better than he really is. Golovkin is still roughly the same fighter that Kassim Ouma almost beat. The only difference is he hasn’t faced a good opponent since that fight. Geale might be the guy to make Golovkin question himself and lose it mentally when he can’t find him with his big power shots on Saturday night. Geale won’t be standing in front of Golovkin. He’s going to stab him with shots and then get away before he has a chance to land anything of his own.

Prediction: Geale by 12 round unanimous decision.
