Froch uses reverse psychology with Groves

froch333By Scott Gilfoid: In an incredibly boring Ringside episode between IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch and George Groves this week, Froch basically used reverse psychology on Groves by complimenting him right off the bat, and giving him kudos for a great fight the last time they met up last November. Froch hardly disagreed with Groves at all during the episode until the end, but even when he was disagreeing, Froch looked pretty meek about it and wasn’t losing his cool.

As I said, it was very, very boring to watch, and I must say Froch really undermined himself by not telling Groves what he really thought of him. I mean, why hold back your thoughts if the idea is to get fans believing in the fight? Like last time, Groves was really giving it to Froch the whole time, but Froch was hardly fighting back verbally and it wasn’t even a fight. I wanted to just walk up to Froch and shake him awake because he was hardly even there. Heck, they might as well have had Eddie Hearn answering Froch’s questions for him because it would have amounted to the same. Froch was totally detached and emotionless.

Froch looked physically ill during the show, as he kept sniffing and his eyes looked teary the whole time. He didn’t look well. Hopefully for his sake he recovers from whatever that ails him by the time fight comes around on May 31st.

“100 percent I have more respect for George Groves as a fighter,” Froch said. “He fought a fantastic fight, he caught me with a shot in round one, which everyone saw it. He put me over with a hurtful shot. I stood up, but I probably got up a little too quick because my legs deceived me. It was a hard 6 rounds. It was a torrid 6 rounds, for sure. It definitely wasn’t my best performance. How could it be my best performance? I hit the deck in round one, got hit with everything but the kitchen sink for the next 5 rounds.”

As you can see, Froch was pretty much smothering Groves with love during the show and it was just hard to watch. I could barely keep awake, and poor Groves was left with no one to spar with other than Johnny Nelson, who he lit up a couple of times for his questions.

Froch continued with the love, “It was a really bad day at the office for me. I underestimated him.”

Froch then went on to say that he agreed that the fight was halted too soon. Basically Froch agreed with much of the stuff that Groves had been complaining about for the past six months.

Portions of the fight were replayed, and it was pretty brutal the amount of punishment Froch took in that fight. He took some massive head shots, and I’m not just talking about with the knockdown in the 1st. Froch was getting hammered in each round, especially in the 6th when Froch and Groves went toe-to-toe. I wonder if Froch is going to be able to fight another war like that against Groves. I have my doubts.
