Huck suffers injury, fight March 29th fight is off; Price vs. Pala also will need to be rescheduled

By Allan Fox: WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (37-2-1, 26 KO’s) suffered a thumb injury while training for his March 29th title defense against little known challenger Mirko Larghetti (20-0, 12 Ko’s), and the fight will now need to be rescheduled. The same goes for the co-feature bout between British heavyweight David Price (16-2, 14 KO’s) and Ondrej Pala (334, 23 KO’s). The card was supposed to take place at the Velodrom, Berlin, Germany.

It’s unclear at this time when the card will be rescheduled, but it’s possible that it could take 2-3 months depending on severity of Huck’s thumb injury. Price, 6’8″, can’t afford to sit idle for that long without it delaying his career. He’s not facing a good opponent, and he needs to be moving forward instead of waiting on Huck to recover from his injury. Price ended his 2-fight losing streak recently in halting Istvan Ruzsinszky in the 1st round.

Huck has had recent wins over Firat Arslan and Ola Afolabi. He’s run out of opposition unless he want to take on the dangerous contenders Thabiso Mchunu and Ilunga Makabu. Those would be tough fights for Huck, especially Mchunu due to his hand speed, power and boxing skills.

Sauerland Events would be taking a big risk in letting Huck fight one of those guys because they’re a lot different than the fighters that Huck has been fighting recently. A fight between Huck and Guillermo Jones would be interesting, as would Huck vs. Denis Lebedev II. Huck was given a controversial 12 round decision over Lebedev back in 2010 in a fight that very few people saw Huck winning. He never gave Lebedev a rematch despite the controversy surrounding that fight. Facing any one of these would be a lot better than Huck defending his title against hopeless opponents like Larghetti.
