Carl Froch vs. George Groves: Analysis and prediction
By Ivan Godfrey: On the 23rd of this month Froch will go up against one George Groves (19-0, 15 KO’s) for the IBF super middleweight title. Although the WBA ‘regular’ title will also be up for contention. I shall choose not to mention that in the same light as the IBF ‘super’ world title as i and the majority of boxing fans are unaware of how to judge these so called ‘regular’ champions.
WOW! What a fight we have on our hands here. Two fighters styles make a fight. Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Tim Bradley the other day was always going to be a quite dour match up in terms of excitement for neutral fans of the sweet science due to their similar ‘defensive’ counter-punching styles. Don’t get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed the tactical know-how throughout, but lets be honest, all we want to see is a good brawl between two ‘hard nuts’ who care about nothing but getting the win. For this reason i am very excited for the Froch vs. Groves bout due to the spirit of both competitors.
I am one who is of the opinion that it`s a fighters spirit which ultimately wins a fight. Sure, Andre Ward looks like he could beat his opponents with his eyes pasted shut, however to say he wins purely due to his skill as a boxer, i believe is a huge discredit to his heart and soul when he steps in the the ring. He is a warrior, just like Mayweather, although this skill/talent is most often overshadowed by their supremely slick boxing ability.
Groves has a big, big heart, as demonstrated against the accomplished Kenny Anderson. Carl Froch has the most courageous heart I have ever witnessed in my short time following professional boxing (since 2003), and yet Groves has the slightly greater boxing skill. I n truth The heart of Groves has not been tested. However i do not understand people saying his skill his talent and skill have not been tested. Yes they have, just not in the ring. Eddie Hearn would not put Groves in for this fight unless he had witnessed the skill of a top level fighter displayed in front of his eyes. Hearn is promoting Groves and therefore will never dream of making him appear feeble against his main attraction, the Cobra, so what this comes down to is the heart and soul of each fighter, and that makes for an incredible contest.
I believe Froch will have too much determination for George, however i do not know this. Anyone reading this whom is undecided upon whether to pay pay to watch this fight, don’t, go down to you`r local boozer first to check if they are showing it. If not, pay the money as it will be worth it, if you love boxing as much as me, that is. Trust me (a stranger).
On the 23rd there is also an under card, encase you hadn’t heard. I will be honest it is not the greatest. You will witness the talented and skilled Anthony Joshua, as well as Luke Campbell taking on a couple of no marks, as well as Scott Quigg defending his alphabet spaghetti title against some bloke.
Despite the let down of a disappointing under card, i shall be purchasing the show for the main event as it will be epic.
Thank you for your time boxing public.
