provodnikov10By Gerardo Granados: Last night at Denver, Colorado, U.S.A.; the Siberian Rocky Ruslan Provodnikov defeated the defending champion Mike Mile High Alvarado by TKO10. In a fight that lived up to the expectations and none of the boxing fans got bored by the superb performance of these two ring warriors. I have no doubt that this one is a serious candidate for the fight of the year award.

I can´t recall the last time that two fighters who fought each other were candidates for the fight of the year award after being involved in two different fights that are solid candidates for the award in the same year: Mike Alvarado vs. Brandon Rios, Ruslan Provodnikov vs. Tim Bradley and Mike Alvarado vs. Ruslan Provodnikov fights.

The fight was a real battle between two lion kings. The relentless pressure of Provodnikov was the key to his victory and the stoppage was the right call for Alvarado. Mike got knock down twice in the eighth round but managed to end the round on his feet battling off Ruslan with hard shots and the rest of the fight was a battle of will to conquer his opponent.

I believe there is no need to analyze the rounds or to describe them to the readers; it was simply the best fight this year so far and you better watch it if you didn´t got the chance to see it.

I am not sure if the weight that Alvarado had to shed off at the weigh in affected his performance in the late rounds, but I am certain that a rematch must be arranged for next year.

Ruslan´s face expression when he knew he had won the fight is just priceless, the big smile and his eyes were the perfect ending for the Siberian Rocky real life movie. Congratulations to the new WBO light welterweight champion of the world Ruslan Provodnikov!
