Booth rules out Haye fighting on July 6th

haye3243By Scott Gilfoid: Earlier tonight, trainer/manager Adam Booth says that former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) WON’T be fighting on July 6th. Booth blames that rumor on poor journalism in England. Booth says that Haye will be making a decision about his career in the next 10 days.

I figured it was too good to be true that Haye would be coming back on July 6th. The talk at the time was that Haye had finally seen the light and was going to work his way in line to become the mandatory challenger for IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko to guarantee himself a title shot, which is something that Haye should have committed himself to doing two years ago after he was beaten by Wladimir by a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision in July of 2011.

Had Haye been smart and continued to fight three to four times a year working his way back to the mandatory spot, he’d have already gotten another title shot against Wladimir, and would have made big bank. Talk about your huge blunders. Haye gambled that he’d be able to get a title shot against one of the Klitschkos simply by opening his yap, and trash talking like he did before to get the fight against Wladimir.

Someone should have pulled Haye aside two years ago and told that he needed a good backup plan just in case his yapping didn’t produce the desired results. If there was a thinker behind Haye’s fights, he’d have gotten his rematch, and he would have already made tons of money in that fight and the other fights he failed to take.

It’s scary to think about the huge money that Haye has lost simply by not being busy in the last two years. Haye could have fought an additional one time in 2011, two times in 2012 and one time in 2013.

Overall, you’ve got to figure that Haye has missed out on at least four fights since his loss to Wladimir. If Haye were to have made a conserative $4 million per fight, he’d have an extra $16 million in his bank account had been busy, and it would likely be even more than that with a second fight against Wladimir.
