Image: Kessler vs. Froch 2, second quarter of 2013Only few days after Mikkel Kessler’s knockout victory over WBA World super middleweight champion Brian Magee, it has been revealed that a rematch between the two master boxers Kessler and Froch is a very real possibility and quite near.

The Danish newspaper “Ekstra Bladet” put the spotlight on that fact and the promoters of the two fighters, Kalle Saurland and Eddie Hearns, have already been through a good part of negotiation. A signed contract shouldn’t be too many days away in the future. It’s possible a contract could be signed by the two camps before Christmas, according to Kalle Sauerland.

The details are quite simple and so are the details about the contract, mainly because it’s a fight that both Kessler, Froch, Hearns and Saurland really want. They also agreed to box in England, which is only fair since the first fight was in Denmark. Only small details as to where in England the fight should be fought remains. Team Froch would like it in his backyard in Nottingham, England, while team Kessler would like it in London or Manchester. To me, London or Manchester sounds like the most reasonable place since it’s easier for Danish fans to travel there by plane. Their previous fight was in Kessler’s country, but not in his backyard which is Copenhagen). The fight was in the city of Herning on the Other side of Denmark.

Kessler’s next fight was supposed to be scheduled against Andre Ward. but since Ward injured his shoulder and postponed his fight against Kelly Pavlik (which he has to get out of the way first) to somewhere in April, it totally makes sense that Kessler doesn’t want to sit around waiting until probably September before Ward is able to fight him. The Viking Warrior takes the fight against Froch first, and then he (or the winner of that fight) can take the fight against Ward sometime in late 2013.

I’m sure a lot of boxing fans, myself included,  are looking forward to Kessler vs. Froch part 2, which will definitely be a blast. And then the winner of that war can get a fight against Ward with all the majors titles on the line (WBA, WBC and IBF),and that too will be awesome.
