Image: Roger Mayweather: I would teach Khan to boxBy Chris Williams: If Amir Khan is looking for a new start in his career he might want to look up Roger Mayweather, because he feels that Khan is going about it the wrong way with the way he’s been trying to slug with his opponents.

Khan was knocked out last Saturday night in the 4th round when he made the mistake of trying to punch with WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia. Khan was knocked silly, hitting the canvas three times before it was stopped in the 4th by referee Kenny Bayless.

Roger Mayweather told examiner.com writer Chris Robinson “If I was teaching him I would teach him how to box, to keep them motherf***** away from him. He’s tall, he’s rangy anyways. Learn how to control them with your reach.”

If I was Khan I’d probably dump Roach immediately, and wouldn’t bother having a one on one conversation with him. When things aren’t working out it’s pointless to hold on to it. Khan might like the attention he receives and the sparring he gets by training at Roach’s Wildcard Gym in Los Angeles, but what good is it if Khan’s career is sinking into the quicksand with one loss after another? Khan needs to get with Mayweather as soon as possible so he can turn things around. I don’t think he will if he stays with Roach. Khan should cut ties with Roach just like he did with Alex Ariza, and start fresh with Roger Mayweather or his brother Floyd Mayweather Sr. Those two are excellent at teaching defensive skills.

Khan might be able to resurrect his career with the help of Roger, and make something of himself. The advantage of training at the Mayweather gym will be that Khan will likely get the opportunity to spar with Floyd Jr., and if nothing else, he’d learn how to fight in the Mayweather style. That way if Khan ever does fight Mayweather Jr, it won’t be such a shock to him.
