Lopez told the sportsillustrated.cnn.com “Canelo, he’s a champion for a reason, but he’s not going to be hard to find. He’s going to be right in front of me all the time, and I can take a bigger guy’s punches.”

One thing you can say is that Lopez won’t be at a size disadvantage judging by the recent pictures of them at their press conference. Besides looking at least two inches taller than Canelo, Lopez also is looking heavier than him as well. It doesn’t look like Lopez has missed any meals since pulling off a huge upset in beating Victor Ortiz last month in a 9th round stoppage victory.

Lopez has really packed on the pounds since that fight, and he must have been really power feeding to get so fat so quickly. Hopefully, Lopez backs away from the table and starts melting some of that blubber off because it would be a pity if he can’t even make 154 for the fight. He’s been pretty disciplined all this time in melting down to 140 to make weight for his light welterweight bouts, but he can afford to start pigging out now that he’s got a fight at 154 against Alvarez.

Lopez is right about him not having any problems finding Alvarez in the ring, but he’s dead wrong if he thinks he’s going to be able to stand up to those shots for 12 rounds. This isn’t Victor Ortiz, who fought off an on. Canelo will be throwing nonstop punches for three minutes of every round, and unless Lopez figures out a way to survive, he’s going to get knocked out. Also, he’ll make it worse for himself if he gets much fatter.
