Dirrell, 28, recently made his first appearance in almost two years when he defeated Darryl Cunningham in a sensational 2nd round TKO last December.

The win quickly put Dirrell back in the top 15 at #4 WBO in the super middleweight division. However, Dirrell is going to need to stay busy and keep winning in order to get positioned high enough to where the champions are literally forced to face him because no one is going to likely willingly take him on due to his dangerous power, hand speed and defensive ability. Direll might be dangerous for his own good to get a fight.

Dirrell said on his twitter “I’m setting up a fight for late May.”

The World Boxing Organization is probably the best chance for Dirrell, because he can position himself to face the WBO champion Robert Stieglitz or Mikkel Kessler, whoever wins their April 14th fight. Dirrell is going to have to wait, though, because after the Stieglitz-Kessler fight is through, former Super Six tournament contestant Arthur Abraham will get a shot at the winner, provided that he wins his next fight against Piotr Wilczewski on March 31st.

It’s sad that Abraham will get a chance at facing the winner of the Kessler vs. Stieglitz fight given that Abraham has lost three out of his last five fights. What’s up with that? The guy is losing more than he’s winning and yet the WBO has him ranked #2 in the division above Dirrell, who easily beat Abraham in 2010. It’s just really sad. Whatever the case, I expect Abraham to be weeded out so he won’t be around, but it is disappointing for Dirrell to have to wait for guys like that to get title shots with that many losses in his last five fights. When you lose that much, you should dropped to the bottom of the pack and be forced to work your way back up.
