Image: Pacquiao to make $25 million guaranteed for Bradley bout, the biggest payday of his careerBy Dan Ambrose: Well, it looks like WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao will get the biggest payday of his career on June 9th in his fight against American Timothy Bradley at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. According to the Manila Bulletin writer Nick Giongco, Pacquiao will bring in a guaranteed haul of $25 million smackers, in addition to pay per view sales, gate sales and the international broadcast rights.

It’s hard to even imagine the amount of loot that Pacquiao will gather up after all that cash is realed in. My guess is well over $30 million, even if his fight against Bradley does modest numbers in terms of PPV sales. It’ll at least bring in 800,000 as a low figure with as much as 1.2 million buys if Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum does a good job marketing the fight.

It’s not going to be easy, because Bradley is still kind of an unknown to the casual boxing fans and he’s kind of a quiet type. If he can get out there in the public and start talking a lot of smack, he’ll increase the chances that the fight will attract big numbers.

Pacquiao won’t be the one to help hype the fight because he always pretty much keeps his mouth shut. Pacquiao’s silence has made it necessary for his trainer Freddie Roach to be the one that does all the mouthing off. This no doubt has helped Roach’s popularity because he’s sought after day and night for soundbites, while Pacquiao mostly trains in the shadows and says little.

Bradley needs to take a page out of heavyweight David Haye’s playbook by talking long and hard about Pacquiao if he wants to make sure he gets every last penny from the PPV sales. It’ll take some theatrics and a lot of hard work, but I think Bradley could do the job if he was smart. Too bad Pacquiao is always so quiet. He should talking trash to help the bottom line. This fight needs it more than some of his recent ones because Bradley isn’t exactly a thrilling opponent.
