Image: Pavlik a possibility for Froch's next bout if Bute fight doesn't get madeBy Scott Gilfoid: A fight between former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (37-2, 32 KO’s) and former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (28-2, 20 KO’s) is a possibility in the early part of 2012 in Nottingham, England, according to Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn.

Pavlik is one of names and Mikkel Kessler is another. This would only happen if Froch doesn’t sign a contract to fight one or two fights against IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute for April and possibly August. If that fight takes place, there will likely be only one fight because I see Froch losing that one pretty badly. I’m not the only one who sees it that way.

Andre Dirrell thinks Bute is the wrong fighter for Froch and he thinks Froch will lose a points decision if he is foolish enough to take that route. That would be a dumb, dumb fight for Froch take in estimation. Froch fought like he had arthritis in his joints in his loss to WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward, so you’re going to throw him out there with another fast guy like Bute? What a mistake that will be. I think it’ll be a sad day for Froch fans if that happens.

I do like the Pavlik-Froch fight if they can get it. Both guys are like clones of each other and it would be hard to pick a winner. Pavlik is a bigger puncher but Froch is the better boxer. Both guys are around 6’2”, skinny and long-armed. If Hearn can drag Pavlik over to Nottingham, then I can see Froch winning this fight. But whatever happens, it would be a war to end all wars. Froch blocks punches with his face and so does Pavlik.

They would be like a couple of slow bulls tossing up dirt and mauling each other while the Brits in the crowd would be going berserk with the old football songs and the horn blowing. I imagine it would be a fight Pavlik would be interested in because he wouldn’t have to deal with a faster guy for a change. Froch is slow, slow and slow with a jaw that’s just begging to be punched by a Pavlik right hand.
