Image: Roach says Pacquiao will target Mosley's body to try and wear him downBy Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach says he’s going to have his fighter Manny Pacquiao go after Shane Mosley’s body on Saturday night in hopes of wearing down the 39-year-old Mosley for later in the fight. Roach acknowledges that Mosley hasn’t looked in his last two fights but expects him to bring his A game on Saturday night to try and pull off an upset in the Las Vegas fight.

The thing is Mosley will likely be going after Pacquiao’s body as well. This could end up being a 50s type fight where both guys are standing in close and firing off hard body shots at one another. Mosley appears to be the better body puncher, so I would definitely favor Mosley in this kind of fight.

One thing that few people have chosen to comment on is how big Pacquiao is looking in training camp. He looks more muscular and heavier than he was in past camps. It’s not surprising because he’s reportedly having one of his best camps and he may very well have packed on new muscle. The problem with this is Pacquiao could end up wearing down if the fight goes past the 6th round and if Mosley doesn’t gas out himself, we could see Pacquiao taking punishment in the latter part of the fight. He looks like he’s put on useless muscle that doesn’t translate into bigger power or better endurance.

If Mosley goes to Pacquiao’s body early and often in the first half of the fight, we could see a heavy and tired Pacquiao getting beaten up by Mosley in the later rounds. Pacquiao looked exhausted and old in his fights with Joshua Clottey and Margarito. Mosley may be able to take advantage of all the size that Pacquiao has packed on by taking him deep and drowning him.
