Image: Mayweather dropped from Ring magazine's pound-for-pound listBy Chris Williams: Unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been taken off Ring Magazine’s pound-for-pound list due to inactivity. Mayweather hasn’t fought since winning a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision win over Shane Mosley last year in May. However, due to a series of legal entanglements, Mayweather has been unable to make it back into the ring to fight. As such, Ring magazine has dropped Mayweather from his number #2 spot in their ranking and replaced him with Sergio Martinez, the WBC Emeritus middleweight champion. Manny Pacquiao is the current #1 ranked fighter according to Ring magazine.

As of now, Mayweather still doesn’t have any fights planned, although he is rumored to be fighting this summer against possibly Victor Ortiz. Mayweather will likely get back into the Ring magazine’s pound-for-pound list as soon as he fights again and defeats somebody. As long as Mayweather is fighting and winning, he belongs on the list. Despite Pacquiao being ranked at the number #1 position, many if not most people think that Mayweather would easily handle Pacquiao when/if they ever fight. As long as Mayweather doesn’t stay out of the ring too long and lose his skills through age and inactivity, he would likely have too much talent for the shorter more wide open Pacquiao.

But the Ring magazine’s rankings are fine for just talk, but it doesn’t tell you who the better fighter is in a head to head match-up. I’d personally pick Mayweather over Pacquiao any day of the week no matter if Mayweather were to stay out of the ring for five years. He’s just got too much boxing ability for a fighter like Pacquiao to handle.
