Klitschko vs. Solis: Once Odlanier gets Vitali bleeding, the fight is won

By Dave Lahr: It’s no great revelation that WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (41-2, 38 KO’s) has skin like rice paper. If you even look at his skin wrong, it starts to tear apart. Vitali barely gets hit in most of his fights, yet he often comes out looking like just crawled out of the trenches of a World War I battlefield. On on March 19th, Vitali is facing the fast, powerful and smart Odlanier Solis (17-0, 12 KO’s) at the Lanxess-Arena, in Cologne, Germany.

This is like a nightmare opponent for Vitali, because Solis does everything well – punch with speed, power and avoids shots. Solis is a former 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist from Cuba and has been one of the most talented fighters in that country since he was a young boy. Boxing is literally in Solis’ blood. He’s always excelled and rarely was beaten as an amateur. This is an opponent that Vitali understandably has not been eager to face, because Solis is the opposite of the mediocre opponents that Vitali has been facing since he captured the WBC heavyweight title against then champion Samuel Peter in 2008.

The keys to the victory for Solis is to just focus on putting hands on Vitali. Solis doesn’t have to worry about trying to load up on his shots. He just needs to throw with speed and just look to tap Vitali in the face as much as possible. The rest will take care of itself, as Vitali will quickly start to swell up, bleed and lose his ability to see where Solis’ punches are coming from. It won’t take much for Solis to get Vitali bleeding like a stuck pig.

All Solis needs to do is focus at throwing alternately at both eyes so that the blood is flowing and Vitali fighting blind. Lennox Lewis had Vitali ripped apart during their 2003 fight, and won the fight on a cut stoppage. I see the same thing happening here. Solis won’t knock Vitali out in the true sense of the word, but rather he will rip him apart to the point where the referee will have no other choice but to stop the fight to save Vitali from bleeding out.
