Is Marquez afraid of Pacquiao and just riding on Pac’s popularity?

By Juan dela Cruz: Juan Manuel Marquez had been chasing Manny Pacquiao, as what he is trying to picture in the minds of many boxing fans, and yet he still failed to land the coveted title of being Manny’s next opponent. He averred that on their two fights in 2004 and 2008, he won both despite keeping on kissing the canvass whenever he was hit by Manny’s then powerless punches as compared to his at this point in time.

Some of Juan’s delusional fans believed Marquez’s drama and even look at it as if Marquez was really bent on landing another shot at Pacquiao. Where in fact, Marquez is actually afraid of Manny and just riding on Pacquiao’s popularity to help boost his dismal ppv drawing prowess (does he have?).

What made me reached this conclusion are Marquez’s own actions which are contrary to what he is saying. I can’t help but notice that when he says something, he meant another.

Okay, let me tell you. Marquez wants everybody to believe that he really wants to fight Pacquiao. So be it. That’s every fighter’s dream, to face Pacquiao and get a big pay check. If Marquez wants to fight Manny, then why is it that all his actions where aimed at driving away Manny from accepting the fight? First, he went to the Philippines and bragged that he wants another fight with Pac and said in national television that all Filipinos saw JMM won both fights. If you want to lure someone who can give you lots of money to give in to your request, you should please him. Telling Manny’s Filipino fans that he won both fights is unpleasant to them and considered an insult. (Just like what Mayweather is doing to avoid Pacquiao, insult Pacquiao to drive him away from the fight).

Then after his fight with Katsidis, he wore a t-shirt with markings “I beat Pacquiao twice.” Does he think this will convince Manny to face him again? It is another kind of insult that turned Pacquiao off from even thinking of the fight. And then when Arum stated that he considers anyone of the three names as Pacquiao’s possible opponent, and after knowing he was one of them, Marquez priced himself up despite the fact that he can’t even sell a ticket. Then Bob Arum gave him a hint on how to land a shot against Manny, and that’s by fighting any welterweight under Top Rank and Arum even mentioned Clottey’s name, a very easy way (according to his fans) for him if he really believe he can beat Clottey. But what he did? He went on to ink a deal with a shot Morales. Oh my!

These actions clearly shows that Juan Manuel Marquez is afraid of Manny Pacquiao knowing Pac is a lot different from the last time they fought. He knows Pacquiao is now a beast that can devour him anytime and worse, can deal him the beating he never had before. Marquez is just using Manny’s name so that casual boxing fans will have a name-recall, thus probably boosting his ppv draw capability. Marquez doesn’t have to do that. He can do it the easy way if he, and his fans, really believe he is that good. All he has to do is fight and defeat anyone of these Top Rank fighters, Clottey, Cotto, and Margarito. (Actually, anyone of these can end Marquez’s boxing career).
