By Sean McDaniel: WBA heavyweight champion David Haye was involved in a car accident earlier today in South London. Haye was unhurt, but his car, which was being driven by his body guard, was smashed after it hit another car and then creamed a light post. Haye, 30, had this to say about the accident on his Twitter page: “I loved this car, it was the first decent car I bought and now it’s dead! (Damn you lamppost! But I’m ok).” Haye is getting ready to defend his title against former EBU heavyweight champion Audley Harrison (27-4, 20 KO’s) next month on November 13th at the M.E.N. Arena, in Manchester, England.

Haye is a heavy favorite to win, but there’s more than a few fans that are giving Harrison a decent chance at winning the fight in a huge upset. Haye isn’t a big heavyweight at only 6’2″ 217 pounds, and will be giving away at least three inches in height to the 6’5″ Harrison and 30 pounds in weight. Harrison will also have a huge reach advantage over Haye, and if he can land his big left hand, Haye might not get back up if he hits the deck.

Since moving up to the heavyweight division in 2008, Haye has mostly fought older fighters nearing 40. Indeed, Nikolay Valuev, 36, was the youngest of the bunch with the rest of them at 38. Harrison is also 38, so Haye is continuing with his trend of facing fighters of advanced age. This could be just a coincidence or it might be by design. Haye didn’t look impressive against Valuev, and it could be that he’s taking things easy to avoid losing his title.
