Options for Pacquiao’s next fight: Valero, Margarito and Marquez

By Jim Dower: According to the LA Times, World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao’s promotional team Top Rank is looking to put Pacquiao in with one of the following fighters in his next fight: Edwin Valero, Antonio Margarito or Juan Manuel Marquez. They also have mild hope that undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. will come around to the negotiating table, but no one is counting on that happening. For Mayweather to fight Pacquiao, he will probably have to drop his desire to have Pacquiao take the Olympic style random blood tests that Mayweather has been insisting on.

That doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. Mayweather might have missed his chance at getting Pacquiao to take blood tests when he failed to accept what was offered by Pacquiao’s team during their negotiations when they offered the blood testing to be stopped at 24 days before their planned March 13th fight at the Dallas Cowboy Stadium.

Margarito fights on May 8th in Mexico against Carson Jones. However, Bob Arum of Top Rank would like to have him fight at the Dallas Cowboy Stadium in his next fight after that. A fight between Margarito and Pacquiao would be huge at the Dallas Cowboy stadium due to the large amount of Mexican fans that would go there to see the fight. If a fight between a relatively unknown Clottey brings in 50,000 fans at the Cowboy stadium, then a fight between Margarito, who is popular in Texas and Mexico, would be much bigger, and they could see crowds of 70,000+ with that kind of popularity.

A fight between WBC lightweight champion Valero (27-0, 27 KO’s) wouldn’t be as popular because Valero doesn’t have a huge fan base in Mexico at this time and isn’t well known yet in the U.S. For a fight with him to generate more fan interest, Valero is going to have to fight at least two more times on U.S. television so that a wider amount of fans get to see him. However, it would be a great fight if they choose to match Pacquiao against the knockout artist Valero.

Juan Manuel Marquez (50-5-1, 37 KO’s) has been waiting for a third fight with Pacquiao since losing a controversial 12 round split decision to Pacquiao in March 2008. Some boxing fans felt that Marquez should have been given the decision in that fight. If Marquez can look as good as he did in 2008, he could beat Pacquiao. However, it’s doubtful because Marquez looked poor recently in fighting Maywweather at welterweight and if Marquez wants to fight Pacquiao for a third time, it will probbaly have to be at welterweight or not at all.

Ideally, the best fight of all would be the winner of the May 1st bout between Shane Mosley and Mayweather should be Pacquiao’s next fight. If it’s Mosley who emerges on top in that fight, then it probably will be Mosley that Pacquiao fights next. However, most people figure that Mayweather will win the fight, and trying to put together a fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao prove impossible to due.

I propose to let Floyd take PED up to 24 days before the fight so he can stop crying and feel like he’s the unfair underdog….then Manny can kick his ass even when floyd is on drugs.

  • PRINCESS says:

I BELIEVE THAT SOMETHING IS FISHY WITH MANNY PACQUIAO WHEN HE FOUGHT JUAN MANUEL MARQUEZ FOR THE SECOND TIME IT WAS CLEAR THAT MARQUEZ WON THAT FIGHT I KNOW THAT MARQUEZ BEAT HIM AND THAT MARQUEZ GOT ROBBED FOR THAT FIGHT HE DIDNT WANT TO FIGHT MAYWEATHER BECAUSE HE DIDNT WANT TO DO A DRUG TEST IF UR NOT WORRIED Y DENY THE TEST

  • Mirekish says:

    PBF won’t fight Pacman.
PBF was no.1 P4P boxes at one time, and Pacman was no.2. PBF decided to “retire” early because he saw what was coming.
What is the reason he wants the olympic style testing? Is that an admission that he sees Pacman as stronger? weird stronger? but still… stronger? What if Pacman concedes and they find nothing, will that take the fear away? Will the result be any different if they do the “24 days before and immediately after the fight” blood testing that Roach was offering? Has anyone in professional boxing ever suggested something like this against his opponent?
Maybe PBF will fight Pacman someday, when the Pac’s older and badly beaten up, but not soon.

  • Anonymous says:

A cheater like Margarito should not get a marquee fight. It was bad for Clottey to fight cowardly. He made himself a non-marketable fighter with his performance. I’m excited with the Mosley Mayweather fight. Hopefully Pac will fight them both in the future specially Floyd. That drug testing business is BS, PBF should be with the commission if he wants to be the one making the rules. If you think about it a lot of fighters claim Pac is fast more than strong and I doubt speed was enhanced by taking drugs. Let’s get it on! If Arum sets up Pac for Margarito and Valero then all I can say is that sucks.

  • lou says:

Valero is dangerous I doubt Freddie goes with that one to much risk. Can you imagine losing to lightwieght champ by Ko. So you know Valero ain’t happening

  • t3xA$ M@D3 says:

@PRETTY BABE you havent paid attention to anything pacquiao says it himself. the fight ain’t happening cause manny didn’t wanna take blood test before the fight.mayweather already said he would fight him after mosely.RANDOM blood test still will be there so manny needs to act like a champion and show where he’s at with mayweather

  • ashishwarrior says:

lex thats after mayweather saw it and want a rematch for a more covincing win this time round

  • t3xA$ M@D3 says:

@ PRETTY BABE O YEAH MAYWEATHER IS FINNA CANCEL THE MOSELY fight for manny.Don’t be mad cause mayweather was there in mannys face and signed the whole contract.Mayweather been calling out manny but he went to go find a stiff that can’t counter punch and stands like a stiff.LOL you manny fans are in the most denial i ever seen.

  • 2fly says:

Out of the three I would rather see Pac and Marg… Pac will blaze thru to Valero but it would be exciting while it last… Marquez and Pac would be great but not at welter if they want to fight it sould be at a catch weight between light weight and Jr Welter if not then Pac will dominate Marquez do to JMM’s body not being able to adjust to the extra weight his too old for him to go up in weight at this time in his career.. Hopefully Pac fights the winner of May vs Mosley… If not why not Berto???

  • Pretty Babe Floyd says:

    @t3xA$ M@D3:

Hey floyd! you changed your handle again? what an ID!0T! Please don’t bark and bark and bark! you such an ID!OT! please stop talking! just fight! please?! please don’t make excuses?! manny now is calling you out! your such a little girl cying all day! have you lost your barbie doll? why asks Oscar you SVCK your d!@k!

  • t3xA$ M@D3 says:

@ HAKU already it doesnt take rocket sciene to figure this out. JUST like when manny fans say mayweather dodged pacquiao when it doesnt take rocket scientist to figure out mayweather signed everything and manny didnt cause of 1 demand compared to all of mannys demands.THATS like say i’m a pothead and im going to put application, then they tell me random drug testing and i chunk a deuce.

  • lex_fugitive says:

After seeing the undercard Pacquiao told Arum, “I want to fight Castillo next.”

It’s hard once you get to the top; people won’t be sattisfied until you fight Godzilla.

  • BigDeal says:

Oscar won titles in 6 different weight classes.

  • waltz says:

    @ Haku313
aww. many viewers and analysts are impressed on those fights. thats why Pacquiao received the “Fighter of the Year” award three times, and “Fighter of the Decade”.

if these people enjoyed the fight, and look at Pacquiao as a boxer that deserve recognitions, why can’t you? there must be wrong with you?

    let go of the hatred.

  • RetiredKOartist says:

Right now just enjoy the boxer who came from flyweight to welterweight, because you will never see this again, & don’t expect him to fight the middle weight class division, that’s too much for him, what I mean to say the middleweight can take his punch but he can not, that’s why there is a weight class division ( Pacman is just a human being like us) & to Floyd to become a 7 times different weight class division champion, Floyd have to beat Mosely, a junior middleweight & middleweight belt because he start from the featherweight & I’m not a pacman fan but I do believe boxing is dying before Pacman, because all the boxing magazines is out of business, I’m glad Oscar Delahoya become the new owner of the ring magazine & boxing almanac & we just hope for Floyd & Manny in the future.

  • Haku313 says:

    @Fighter and Texas Mode

Im glad there’s people online with common sense and actually watch boxing… Imma make some comparisons.

    1. Manny fightn barrera 3 times would be like Tyson fighting spinks 3 times (Big Name, washed up)

    2. Manny beating ODLH, Hatton would be like Lennox Lewis fighting Bruce Seldon and Frank Bruno after Mike Tyson had knocked they ass out.(pointless, they were done. once well known but werent the same fighters)

3.Manny fighting Cotto and Clottey back to back would be like Lennox Lewis beating George Foreman and then fighting Micheal Moorer back to after Foreman had just beat his ass.

Whats so impressive about this? Nothing…. Like i said Manny IMO is fighting Washed Big Names or someone that he knows damn well he can beat. Or maybe Freddie “the dope coach” Roach and Bob Arum whos brainwashing the kid, but whatever the case is; he hasnt and WILL NOT fight anyone with speed, footwork, etc… His next fight will be Margarito, mark my words. another flat footed, slow, easy to hit BUM!

  • Tom C says:

Mayweather vs Pacquiao is the only fight people wanna see right now and it would sort out who really is better rather than just biased opinion, they need to stop the petty bickering and get it done.
IMO Marquez is at his limit at 135 and fighting Pacquiao at 147 would be nowhere near as competitive as their previous meetings. Margarito should be banned for life and shouldn’t be rewarded $10mil payday for cheating. As for Valero, he’s exciting and powerful and a fight with Pacquiao could be an all time classic, unfortunately Valero isn’t well known with casual fans, has no decent names on his record and is untested at 140 let alone 147. Just makes sense to fight Mayweather or at least Mosely/Bradley.

  • mario says:

Pac n floyd will get bash for fightin other fighters no matter wat lol!! If pac n floyd beat bradley they will say bradley has no power if he beats valero they will say he was a bum if he beats williams they will say martinez drew the blueprint!! Lol all of u are fools!! After floyd beats mosley they will say mosley was pass his prime which he is but he is one heck of a champion!!

  • mario says:

That why ppl say boxin is a diein sport!! Cuz boxer never get credit for beatin someone!! Pac has had 50 fights n has been in wars too!! Why come up with excuses over who was shot or past their prime!! Pac beat them period!! Pac n floyd will be among the greats of this decade!!

  • t3xA$ M@D3 says:

@FIGHTER ALREADY.Thats what im saying it happened to tyson, roy jones, david corrales, tommy morrison, de la hoya, holyfield, etc

  • Mirekish says:

A lot of good boxing analyst here. ESPN should have considered you people before giving the title “the greatest television boxing analyst of all time” to Larry Merchant.

  • Killa says:

    @Alexander

Learn something about boxing before you come on here and make a fool out of your self.

  • Fighter says:

@Alexander. Are you serious?! I will adress all of your nonsense, then ask you a few questions of my owm.

    1.We cannot talk about who he might fight next, it’s just the sport. First We were told Floyd, then Malinaggi, and it ended up neither, so let’s get to it;

2.Do you think Oscar was in/near his prime when fighting Manny? Do you think Cotto was at his most dangerous, after losing to Margarito, then going the distance with a contrversial fight w/ Clottey? Do you think Clottey is an A fighter?

3.You REALLY think Hatton was winning on the score cards?
Who beat Hatton first, then gave the blueprint?

You mentioned two fighters (Hatton.ODLH) THAT HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN BEATEN BY MAYWEATHER. Here’s a boxing rule of thumb, since you are obviously a novice; after a fighter suffers a savage beating/KO, they usually don’t come back the same. Mayweather embarassed both fighters, years before Manny came in to fight the big named has beens.

And Clottey’s defense is fundamentally different than Floyd’s. Clottey puts earmuffs on (that means he covers his head:) and rarely counters. Floyd uses head movement, and counters most of the time, as he is renowned for being a counterpuncher.

You a rookie. Run along, while the big boys talk.

  • Pug says:

Alexander, do you really believe that Floyd will just stand there like Clottey and let Pac wail on him like that. Also, these fighters you mentioned all have one common trait, they are all flat footed. Pac wouldn’t look half as good with somebody punching back.

  • t3xA$ M@D3 says:

Yall manny fans are stupid, always saying mayweather wants to make a whole bunch of demands to get out of the fight peep this.MAYWEATHER wanted 60/40 MANNY WANTED 50/50(MANNY DON’t fight for money. lol)Mayweather agreed.Manny wanted a rediculous weight penalty of $10million for every pound over 147 they came in.Mayweather agreed.Manny chose the gloves.Mayweather agreed.Manny chose the size of the ring. Mayweather agreed.Mayweather ask for random blood test for both of them.Manny throws a hissy fit and the fight doesnt happen cause manny don’t wanna take a drug test. Then yall say mayweather don’t wanna fight mosely. Mayweather challenges him. Then yall say mayweather is going to demand alot of stupid things to mosely to get out of the fight.Mayweather ask mosely to take random blood test and Mosely accepts and the fight is going happen. Now yall say mayweather is finna lose and he most likely finna prove yall wrong again. So what yall wanna predict next?

  • Alexander the Fungus says:

@ hack and punk and all the other haters:

Pac is welter for how long, about a year, and put out odl, cotto, clottey and maybe margarito next or shane…whilst mayweather wuz welter for what ten years…and retired and ducked said fighters and a rematch with odl who almost raped him and hatton who wuz winning the fight before being knocked out, when…what round…oh, yes, tenth round…compared to being retired at two for hatton and at eight for odl by pac..

and oh, if clottey’s clam shell defense is futile with pac, what is floyd less onsistent defense gonna do, surely he’ll be knocked out…

  • Pug says:

Haku, I agree with you. Pac is overrated. Beat Mosely, Mayweather and PWill then I’ll get on the bandwagon. Beating Hatton, dehyddrated, overrated Oscar, and a shot Cotto don’t make you P4P. We know that you won’t fight Floyd, but what about Shane, even if he loses? Not flat footed Margarito, washed up Marquez or inexperienced Valero. Because like Haku said, you won’t fight those type of fighters. They are more skilled than you and just as fast. OVERHYPED.

  • Haku313 says:

People still dont get it?! Manny Pacquiao will only fight certain fighters! He WILL NOT fight Mosley,Mayweather, Valero, Bradley jr., Berto, etc… His next fight will be Margarito, a slow, flat footed, easy to hit fighter. Who just got his ass beat and hasnt faught in a year! This is Mannys IMO.

  • Mr Rich says:

Juan Manuel Marquez rules! Viva Mexico lol

  • annonymous says:

Mayweather and Manny will be the decade best fight and the promoters should arrange this fight. i will beat all my wealth for this fight. Mayweather should not be acting as the chairman of the nevada’s boxing commission demanding over and above the rules and regulation of the commission. I am just saying this because we should respect the Nevada’s boxing commission because they are accepted by the whole nation/world. I wish this boxing match will happen within 8 months.

  • Fighter says:

@Annonymous. If you expected Clottey to do anything other than what he’s notorious for, no disrespect, but you must not know boxing. The man has had the same style for his whole carreer. Manny knew this, Freddy knew this, Bob Arum knew this. We should not be talking about what a garbage fighter Clottey is, but why Manny chose to fight anybody but the best. There are plenty of others out there at WW who can compete with Manny. Colazzo, Martinez, Berto, Mosley. The problem is, that Manny’s rise to fame, was built upon the backs of b fighters. It’s a fact. How do you get to be the boxer of the decade beating guys like Barera and Morales, and Clottey, and Cotto, and an old delahoya, and an over-hyped Hatton? This was a garbage fight. We all knew it from the beginning. He should have done like Floyd, and chosen to fight a faster, slicker, laterally moving guy, who has not been beaten in at least 3-4 fights. Fighting guys who are shot, old, and insignificat means nothing to pure boxing fans. You sound like a fan of Manny. Were your friends and family watching when the average, Clottey was rocking Manny’s head back with clean shots? You got cought up in the “BANG” that Jim Lampley was talking about huh? I guess we’ll have to wait till May to see a real technical, exciting match. Mayweather will make it technical, Mosley will make it exciting.

  • annonymous says:

Marquez should stop demanding and hoping to fight pacqiaou at this point. This guy lost the fight twice and thats it. Marquez should fight with the older ones or amateur whom he can match. Let pacquiao fight for the good and popular boxer. if marquez want to fight pacquiao, he should wait after7 years.

  • annonymous says:

Clottey’s showmanship in boxing with Pacquiao was not interesting at all. My family, brotehrs and sisters and all visitors who came to my house and watched the boxing were all got bored. Clottey forgot what boxing was. He only went there and protect his body from being hit-to win a fight you should also box to gain points and he must remember that protecting his body from being hit is not counted as points. I think he just went there for the money. What a lousy boxer. I will never watch his fight again. I have an Ot on my job that night and I cancelled my OT because i was expecting a good fight. The fight I watched is similar to Manny punching a punching bag in GYM.

  • Anthony 20 says:

id rather see the fight against Mayweather as im sure most other people would. It is a fight that has to be made!

If it cant be made id rather see him against Andre Berto. I think Pacman would beat Berto, Marghetto, Quintana, Valero, Marquez and Mosley. A fight against Mayweather though, I can see him been out pointed, Hope im wrong.

  • Mr Rich says:

    @ Fighter

Gamboa has potential to be a great at his weight but im not sure if he could move up much because he is already quite muscular at that weight….. if you look at Pacquiao or Morales at that weight they looked much skinnier so were able to put on a few pounds. However Gamboa does have real dynamite in his gloves and if he could go up without losing speed then he could be a real threat. Its a real shame that Gamboa wasnt born a few years earlier because he really missed out on that whole Barrera, Morales and Paquiao era

  • Fighter says:

Mr. Rich. I would be very interested to see what Little Gamboa would do amongst the bigger players. I think he’s supposed to be fighting Juanma next.

  • Pretty Babe Floyd says:

@anonymous: Floyd is that you? i really tell that you are floyd because you always bragging you “0″ record. Please man the world wants you to fight pacman…. please baby coward please fight pacman… if you don’t fight pacquiao you will always jealous throughout your life…

  • Mr Rich says:

Im not sure if Williams could make 147 anymore…. i think he would be too drained. Even when he fought Martinez he looked so skinny and that fight was at 160 i beleive.

  • z says:

Blah not enough people know valero, jmm is washed up and margarito is a cheat who doesnt deserve the payday. If the mayweather fight cant be made and pac truly is a great warrior who takes on all comers then he should fight williams at 147.

  • ipressbuttons says:

awwwwwwwww wow! Imagine how entertaining Valero v Pacquiao would be! Think Valero’s punches are too wide and would cost him a loss on points or possible late tko but hes great to watch! Clottey was a random choice so who knows… heres hoping!

  • Mr Rich says:

Finally someone who agrees with me on this site lol

Keep up the good posts fighter. I dont use this site often now as i feel my comments are wasted on pimply school boys who have only been watching boxings for the last couple of years. Mostly the spotty Pac cheerleaders who have a poster of him over the bed, you know the type lol

Anyway, i cant wait for the Mosley vs Mayweather fight. Also looking forward to Kessler whooping froch and the soft hitting Mallignaggi still possibly knocking out Amir Khan.

  • Anonymous says:

i think jim lampley is unproffesional he is a joke give trainers and ex pros a shot at commentery the merchants and lampleys are too baised for me they are killing boxing i cant watch it anymore . the worst thing about it is that the media has people believing that pacman can beat floyd do any of you people watch boxing? why does hbo have a program called fights of the decade and floyds not on it i will tell you why because its polotics as usual the man at work!

  • Fighter says:

Mr. Rich. Paragraphs 3 and 5 of yours were dead on. The only thing I would add to your say about Manny losing energy when he throws and misses (which is very true), is that his footwork and balance are suspect as it is, if he were to miss against as fast and accurate a puncher as Floyd, he would be in very big trouble. If Manny can’t handle JMM, then the speed, and pinpoint accuracy of Floyd (who is obiously worlds better than JMM as he embarassed him) will very much overwhelm him.

As for the sport being bigger than these two. ABSOLUTELY true. I’m tired of these two primmadonnas, and their primmadonna trainers. Go hard, go home, or get the F out the way for the next guy.

  • boxer 101 says:

The best fight would be a Pac-Mosley or Williams fight. That would be electric. Pac-Floyd would be intriguing, but I doubt it will deliver.

  • Mr Rich says:

I agree with fighter for the most….. i dont know why people are going all crazy about Pacman beating Clottey… all Clottey has going for him is his size and durablity, he hasnt knocked out anyone in like 5 years. He is a counter puncher (not very good one) with average hand speed and no head movement who just plods forward in a mummy or zombie like fashion. had to laugh at Anonymous for his sarcasm about Mayweather beating the likes of DeMarcus Corley, Henry Bruseles, Sharmba Mitchell or the mighty Carlos Baldomir! lol

Using one mans poor resume of fighters against another mans poor resume doesnt win any arguments it just proves that they have both cherry picked. Lets face it Mayweather fighting Mosley is his 1st true test at welterweight and Pacquiao hasnt fought an in his prime fighter since Marquez and we all know what happened there.

The difference between Mayweather and Clottey is that Mayweather wont be in range to catch a 1000 punches on his elbows and forarms Pacquaio will miss more often and will be off balance more as a result. missing with shots makes you lose more energy than if you connect with shots aswell so i wouldnt expect Pacman to throw as manny punches against Mayweather as he did against the static human punch bag Clottey.

I would love to see them both fight but if it doesnt happen i dont care, im a boxing fan not a Mayweather or Pacquiao fan.

And for the people that think Mayweather and Pacquiao are the saviours of boxing, you are so wrong…… boxing was around before them and will be around a long time after they retire. No boxer is bigger than the sport.

  • Fighter says:

dK. Yeah, you’re right. Manny will be very buisy punching the gloves, and guard of Floyd, and getting points for clean shots the whole way. BANG! Just Like Jim Lamply with a “BANG” after every time Manny landed a misguided punch to Clottey’s gloves. BANG…..BANG…..BANG! He would be more buisy, but Floyd would be more effective. I would rather land clean punches (like Clottey did) than punch somebodys gloves all night, or worse…box the cuff.

  • patpump says:

I would like to see Mayweather man up if he gets by Mosley…..other than that it doesn’t matter. I hope he retires as soon as there are signs of his skills and hunger diminishing. Calzaghe did the right thing, I hope some of these other good ones do the same when they’re time is up…

  • Fighter says:

But that’s always the way it is in life. If you’re black or brown, you have to work twice as hard to get the same cumupping as the next guy. Oh well.

  • Fighter says:

@Anonymous. I agree. Mayweather has fought soft comp in the past. But atleast he foughtguys on his skill level, like Judah. His carrere self destructed, but you can’t take away the fact that he is very fast, and talented. When he fought Delahoya, oscar was closer to his prime than when Manny fought him. Gatti was bigger than Mayweather, and winning at the time of their fight. And JMM gave Manny a very hard time, twice, but Floyd embarassed him. I am no Floyd fan, but at least he’s taking a real fight this spring, instead of fighting bums. Win or lose, you get more respect,or should (maybe he would if he was’nt African American)get more respect for fighting Shane Mosley, than J Clottey. Manny is an overyped P O S. How do you get fighter of the decade, when you have lost/drawn fights during that decade, when there are other fighters, fighting the same level of comp, and undefeated in that decade? Sounds like a little favoratism to me.

  • dk says:

pacman too busy for kentucky floyd chicken points win for manny

  • Zorro says:

    @Fighter
Wow, you hate Jim Lamply for nuthugging Pacquiao. That just goes to show you that no level-headed celebrities admire your boring, trash-talking, prima-donna, fraud Floyd. Clearly you’re jealous of Pacquiao’s achivements.

  • Optimus Prime says:

Fighting Margarito or Marquez will just continue with Pac’s tradition of fighting boxer’s who have recently lost. No way will Arum allow his overhyped pet to fight boxers on a winning streak. Valero will be avoided, he hasn’t lost yet. Maybe Pac will be matched with the loser of the Mayweather-Mosley match-up but not with the winner.

  • Fighter says:

How can Manny be the best ever in boxing, with such an ugly record, and having fought soft comp, like Clottey, Cotto, ODLH, Hatton? These broken, shot, over the hill one dimentional fighters are the curriculum for being the world’s best boxer ever? Some people are delusional.

  • Fighter says:

Anybody get an accurate report on how many ppv’s this garbage did?

  • Fighter says:

I wont pay for another Pacquiao fight, unless he’s fighting somebody capable of beating him. Margarito is another flatfooted, come forward type fighter. Not much, if any lateral movement. One thing in his favor, is that he throws alot of punches, I’ll give him that. But that’s about it. Manny needs to prove if he’s great, or just great at pocking easy fights. i think it’s the latter.

  • mat says:

    @Fighter

who is the bigger fighter? who has the longer reach? who was playing with dirty tactics? clottey was bigger, taller, had a longer reach, was stepping on pac’s foot… he was able to throw punches but pac endured it! he on the other hand was so afraid he would be knocked out.. and he would have been if he was not hiding all night.

  • Kevvy Kev says:

Next fight is with Mayweather or Mosely. Fighter- I don’t know what you were watching but I saw Pacman smother Clottey with punches, many blocked yet a lot more than just one clean shot. I saw clean shots to the rib cage and some shots that went past Clottey’s tight defense. Clottey’s defense was so tight because he didn’t want to be knocked out. I saw 5-6 punch combos all night long. After the fight what did Clottey say? 1. Pacman was too fast for him. 2. He wanted to get close and impose his will but was suprised that Pacman was strong. 3. Mayweather will have a hard time dealing with Pacman. Pacman took Clottey’s and Cotto’s punches and isn’t afraid of Mayweather’s power despite injected his hand with Xylocaine. Mayweather’s hands are so messed up he couldn’t even stagger Marquez.

Yes. Manny was buisy. But so many of his shots were blocked. I saw his heat get rocked backward in every round. Just not often enough. I saw him land ONE clean shot on Clottey in the whole fight. Now to be fair to both of them (even though they both make me sick right now), Floyd always seems to get the short, when he goes the distance, in a somewhat boring, but technical bout. Manny fights an ugly fight, gets smacked around a bit more than usual, and they say he’s possibly the best ever, and all other kinds of nonsense. Having won 7 world titles is not impressive, if you won them off of guys like Cotto, who had recently been in two very tough fights prior. It seems that Freddy does that alot. He eats the table scraps. there are some very game, tough opponents for Manny out there. And he’s looking to fight…Margacheato, or JMM. Let’s be honest, and review his last 4 fights. ODLH should have quit after Mayorga, Hatton was garbage, Cotto had just come off a hard ko loss to Margi, and a tough controversial win over lottey. And Clottey we all know is a guy who clams up, throws very few punches, and lost his last fight (there’s a coincidence. That’s greatness….please.

  • Fighter says:

Wow. What a shocker. Manny and freddy are looking at fighting Margarito (another flatfooted, come forward, easy to hit guy), or JMM, who was defeated in his last fight. Why not Berto? Why not Colazzo? Why not Martinez? These would all be asy to make, as they all are close in weight (sergio would have to shave a few). It would be exciting, as all three are crowd pleasing styles. Maybe they are ellusive, sure handed lightfooted guys. None of the qualities that Manny looks for in opponents.

As Far as Floyd goes. I’m disgusted with his lack of … will to bypass this blood testing crap. If Clottey could do better than expected against Manny, and come out healthy, and Mayweather is supposed to be the superior athlete, then what’s to talk about? I mean Floyd is a great athlete, he just seems to be lacking in heart.

A couple of technical things I noticed in this ugly, boring fight, was that Manny did one particular thing well; he circled. It seemed like every time he got off, he stepped around. Not quite allowing Clottey to cut off the ring. He still is undisciplined when throwing punches. His non-punching hand is everywhere BUT at his temple. Another observation; Even though Manny is technically flawed, his activity level might make Floyd uncomfortable. Floyd is a defensive fighter. So is Clottey, and we saw the ugly mess of a fight that got us. Floyd will have to up the tempo, IF he ever fights Manny. If Manny is able to press him, and look more busy, he will be given the rounds. So Floyd will have to do something spectacular to win. Which means taking chances, something Floyd does less and less these days. The judges will want to give this fight to Manny. And even though Floyd will block alot of shots, you’ll see that the banwagon of commentators will be couting Manny the whole way. “BANG” “BANG” I used to like Jim Lamply, but to see him gargle manny’s n!ts like that was disgraceful. He seemed to never announce when Clottey landed a flush hard straight right, but managaed to mention every single one of manny’s shots that landed on the gloves of Clottey. I DO think he won, but not nearly as impressively as they tried to make it. This was an ugly win, and a waste of 49.95. This is not good for boxing. They all sat around and chastized Clottey, for doing exactly what he ALWAYS does, and what he said he would do b4 the fight! Hopefully all this gargling of bodily fluids is a facade, and an attempt to lure Mayweather in, to have to set it straight. IF he can get past Mosley.

  • BRIAN says:

    MAYWEATHER SIMPLY THE BEST

  • BBull says:

Manny must fight Maywether and after he destroys him another two fights, one must be Marquez and he will KO him in 5 rounds and his last fight must be for a jnr middle weight title and then he can retire as the best ever in boxing

  • Pete says:

It has to be Mayweather v Pacquiao – thats the only fight that will satistfy the fans, the casual fans, the media and the sport itself. I know Mayweather is worried about his ’0′ which is why he will not shut up about testing but he is going to have to man up or forever be known as the guy who dodged Pacman.

    @ Dayyammmm

I second that. I firmly believe that a cheater shouldn’t be given a second chance, especially for a fight with one of the greatest.

  • golden boxer says:

anyone but that cheat margarito who should be in jail

  • Glass Joe says:

I think Valero needs a big fight against a well-known opponent first

  • Eric says:

    wtf, Margarito!? No way!!!

  • dayyammmm says:

Valero or Marquez would be great.

I think rewarding Margarito with a payday is just….wrong.
