By Jeff Aranow: The recently knocked out former world title challenger Dierry Jean (29-2-1, 20 KOs) fought to an eight round draw on Friday night against Ricky Sismundo (30-9-3, 13KO) at the Metropolis, in Montreal, Canada.

The final judges’ scores were 76-74 for Jean, 76-74 for Sismundo and 75-75 even. Jean was knocked down twice in the 4th round. Jean’s left eye closed at the midpoint in the fight, and it was all he could do to keep fighting to squeak out a draw.

You have to wonder whether Jean was still feeling the aftereffects of his 10th round knockout to WBO light welterweight champion Terence Crawford in his last in October of last year.

Unbeaten junior middleweight Steven Butler (16-0-1, 13 KOs) defeated Ferdinand Pilz (16-1, 12 KOs) by 9th round knockout to retain his IBF Youth super welterweight title. Butler knocked Pilz down twice in the 9th. The fight was then halted.

The hard hitting and blazing fast light welterweight Guislan Maduma (18-2, 11 KOs) looked impressive tonight in working over the over-matched csar Inalef (20-6-2, 6 KOs) in defeating him by a one-sided eight round unanimous decision. The final judges scores showed how lopsided the fight was, as Maduma won by the scores of 80-71, 80-71 and 80-70.

In the third round, Maduma dropped Inalef. Maduma has now won two out of his last four fights. He was beaten by Maurice Hooker by a 10 round decision in his last fight. Two years ago, Maduma ran out of gas in the 11th round against Kevin Mitchell and was stopped. Maduma was controlling the fight at the time.
