Christian Mbilli Signs Major Promotional Deal with Top Rank, Eyes World Title

Unbeaten super middleweight contender Christian Mbilli has signed a long-term promotional deal with Top Rank and will be co-promoted by Eye of the Tiger.

With the 28-year-old France-born Mbilli (26-0, 22 KOs), it should lead to some big fights for him at 168, potentially against undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez in the future.

Mbilli is coming off an impressive sixth-round stoppage victory over Rohan Murdock last January on the undercard of Artur Beterbiev vs. Callum Smith card at the Centre Videotron in Quebec, Canada.

The fight between Mbilli and Murdock stole the shot from the main event, which was hopelessly one-sided, with Beterbiev wiping the deck with an inept Callum.

Ranked and Ready

Mbilli is ranked #2 WBA, #2 WBC, #3 IBF, and #4 WBO, and if the four-belt champion Canelo gives him the opportunity, he could challenge for a world title now.

Whether Top Rank would be interested in matching Mbilli against WBA ‘regular’ super middleweight belt-holder David Morrell Jr. remains to be seen.

That would involve Top Rank needing to work with PBC and deal with a dual network broadcast, but they got to do something with Mbilli. With Canelo, he picks who he wants to fight and won’t be forced into defending any of his belts if he doesn’t feel it’s worthwhile for him.

Mbilli: “I have an unbeatable team”

“We all know the power of promoters and the significant role they play in the boxing world,” said Mbilli. “So, with Top Rank and Eye of the Tiger joining forces, I certainly have an unbeatable team as I head towards a world championship. A big thank you to my team, which once again demonstrates their hard work with this incredible partnership!”

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum revealed that he was ringside for Mbilli’s fight against Murdock on January 13th, and he was greatly impressed with what he saw from him in that fight.

The high work rate, power, and thrilling fighting style of Mbilli made it enjoyable to watch. He’s more entertaining than the average super middleweight contenders. Even Canelo Alvarez doesn’t fight with this kind of style.
